Just Released: John Edwards’ Mugshot

He’s smiling, but probably not too happy inside. Former Democratic vice presidential nominee and presidential candidate John Edwardsmugsot has been released after he pleaded not guilty last week to conspiracy and campaign law violations.

A federal grand jury indicted Edwards on six counts, including conspiracy, making false statements, and violating campaign contribution laws. The case stems from alleged payments made in an attempt to cover up Edwards’ affair with Rielle Hunter.

At first I couldn’t figure out why he was smiling, then I realized he’s in front of a mirror.

probably the first mugshot with a smile on

  • A.R.

if he was a republican, he would be running for president again

Dude knew it’d go viral, so he made it look like a publicity still.

    Smart move on his part.

It makes him look likable, average, not out of control or thuggish.

    He probably thinking .

“Well , I may be a slug , but at least I’m not that Weiner guy .”

  • Laddy Go-Rod

Edwards’ tie is a clip-on. Otherwise, they would have taken it away along with his belt and shoe-laces.

Hope Johnny-Johnny-John-John has plenty of butt-lube – he’s gonna need it.

-Democrats – Happily destroying America since… . …well, pretty much, always-

  • slickerwick

Did Rielle Hunter take the picture?

Nice hair. He must have been peering into the mirror and combing it a lot like in that infamous youtube video of his. “I feel pretty, oh so pretty…”

He and Wiener will be starring in a new sitcom for MSNBC–Two and A Half-Assed Narcissists.

Learned a lesson from the Tom DeLay school. Always smile in your mug shot and it won’t be the picture used every time your scandal is mentioned.

Tom DeLay would beg to differ.

If Edwards is this happy at the mugshot, he’s gong to love the criminal trial. Very strange.

  • LOGICandREASON

ROTFALMAO…. I can’t believe he was going to be Commander-in-Chief

    oh Democrats!

Fact: Big Bubba is the photographer and he’s saying you’ll be my biscuit.

    Tom Delay pioneered that.

  • illusive man

He’s going to be very popular in jail.

  • SuburbanPatriot

He is smiling like Tom DeLay but unlike the “Hammer” he is absolutely guilty and a hypocrate just like all dems are and also when they asked DeLay why he was smiling so much he said because God was on his side and that is most certainly the case because dems and libs don’t even believe in God most of the time. DeLay was eventually exoneretad and set free and mark my words pretty boy Edwards will be in jail for a long long time and be a very popular little boy. Why are all dems hypacrites and liars and criminals? It must be something about the liberal genes. Thank you.

As noted above, Delay did that as well, really mugging for his mugshot. Attorneys often advise their clients who surrender (rather than be arrested) to dress well, comb their hair and smile. We recently had the arrest of the moll of a car theft ring, with the improbable name of “Velveeta” whose mugshot was something of a local treasure. A mass of hair going every which way, a bandage on her forehead, a neon green tank top revealing big, beefy, flabby arms with a mass of crude, pornographic tattoos, and the worst look on her face you’ve ever seen, unless you’ve met some of our Alabama or Mountain West posters. Velveeta needed Edwards’ lawyer. No justice for the poor in America!

The boy looks like he’s makin’ another run for the Presidency. Couldn’t be any worse than the present.

I shall confess. One of the great political tragedies of my time. Perhaps, the greatest. When Edwards gave his “two Americas” speech I was spellbound, then eager for action. Well, the words were greater than the man I suppose.

You remember a Texas governor, John Connally? Democrat. Nixon persuaded him to turn Republican. Likely going to be a serious Republican presidential candidate. Then, the milk fund scandal, and he was gone. I never could stand the guy, even when he was a Democrat. I saw more angst over his decline. Never understood it until Edwards.

We’re an amazing state, aren’t we? I’m told Dan Moody was a great governor, well before my time, and that Allan Shivers did a great job on infrastructure. Maybe so, but it seems to me every governor we’ve ever had, regardless of party, is worse than the one before him or her. And, we started darn low.

That is the first thing I thought, John is doing the DeLay thing. A couple of years ago i read a really good article somewhere on the internet about what you mention and how celebrities are doing it more and more.

My understanding is Tom DeLay liked his mugshot so much he used it for other purposes. I need to look this one up but I believe it to be true.

From Winki: In 1975, Connally was accused of pocketing $10,000 for influencing a milk price decision by Texas lawyer Jake Jacobsen. At his trial, he called as character witnesses Jackie Kennedy, Lady Bird Johnson, Barbara Jordan (the first African American woman state senator in Texas history), Dean Rusk, Robert McNamara, and Billy Graham. Connally was acquitted.

I sat across the aisle from Connally at Mama’s Cafe on Westheimer a few years ago. When I looked up and recognized him having breakfast a few feet away, he was already looking at me, smiling, like he wanted to be recognized. A friend’s wife represented him in a court case that went to the jury. He was the ideal client. Paid his legal bill and made a great witness. I also met Ben Barnes once at a Democratic fundraiser. But my greatest witness to Texas political downfall came when I interviewed incumbent Governor Dolph Briscoe for the Galveston paper the day before he lost the Democratic gubernatorial primary to challenger John Hill. Lots of sturm und drang in Texas politics back then.

John was right about the whole two Americas thing: The two Americas are made up of those who think that Edwards is a dreadful person on the one side and John Edwards on the other.

I have a great respect for John Edwards.

I suspect he is now dealing with mental illness.

John actually cared for the marginalized in America, unlike most.

David r, you witnessed a long lost part of American history. To many ignorant folks you may as well be talking about Grover Cleveland.

Most of today’s leaders are a joke compared to the past.

I am 40 years old. 20 years ago I was considered a centrist.
Today I am considered a hard core leftist.
What the hell has happened to the Republicans?

I envy you. John Connolly was larger than life.
Something is very wrong with the body politic today.
I worry about a spark starting something out of control.
    Perhaps we have no choice.
This is where we are at. Maybe it will be for the good. of everyone.
