McDonald’s to Employees: Avoid Eating Fast Food

A resource website for McDonald’s employees is warning them about the “risks” of eating too much fast food. CNBC reported on the website, which appears to recognize no irony or contradiction in its messaging.

“Fast foods are quick, reasonably priced, and readily available alternatives to home cooking. While convenient and economical for a busy lifestyle, fast foods are typically high in calories, fat, saturated fat, sugar, and salt and may put people at risk for becoming overweight,” one page reads, under the headline “Can You Eat Fast Food?” Later, the site advises employees to eat at restaurants that offer a “variety of soups, salads and vegetables”:

Under “Fast food tips,” the website shows one meal that looks a lot like something you would get at McDonald’s under the words “Unhealthy choice” beside another meal labeled “Healthier choice”:

A McDonald’s spokesperson defended the website’s content in a statement:

“Portions of this website continue to be taken entirely out of context. This website provides useful information from respected third-parties about many topics, among them health and wellness. It also includes information from experts about healthy eating and making balanced choices. McDonald’s agrees with this advice.”

As CNBC’s Michelle Caruso-Cabrera said, “Clearly they outsourced this product to somebody else.”
