Media Matters Responds to Attkisson: Criticism ‘Based Only on her Shoddy Reporting’

On Sunday’s Reliable Sources, former CBS News investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson told host Brian Stelter she felt Media Matters had targeted her for criticism over her reporting on the Obama administration, and suggested they may have even been encouraged to do so through financial contributions.

On Sunday evening, Media Matters responded through a spokesperson:

“Sharyl Attkisson is continuing a pattern of evidence-free speculation that started at the end of her tenure at CBS. We have never taken contributions to target her or any other reporter. Our decision to post any research on Attkisson is based only on her shoddy reporting.”

Attkisson resigned from CBS News last month after becoming known for her stories on Fast and Furious, Benghazi and more; she has since accused CBS News of stifling anti-administration stories, and characterized the Obama administration as having a “chilling effect” upon the press.
