Rand Paul Fights Rubio: You’re ‘Liberal on Military Spending’!

rubio paulRand Paul picked a fight with Marco Rubio during tonight’s Fox Business debate over spending, basically accusing him of being “not very conservative” when it comes to that particular issue.

Rubio touted his support for a child tax credit increase and made the argument that one of the most important things America can do is strengthening the family. Paul rebutted by asking, “Is it fiscally conservative to have a trillion-dollar expenditure?”

He dismissed it as a “new welfare program” and told Rubio that’s “not very conservative on spending,” even bringing up Rubio wanting to add a trillion to military spending.

Rubio said, “I know that Rand is a committed isolationist. I want to defend this nation.”

They went back and forth arguing over the matter, with Rubio insisting that if America isn’t kept safe, it won’t have an economy anymore. Paul shot back that going further into debt doesn’t make America safe either. He concluded, “Can you be a conservative and be liberal on military spending?… I want a strong national defense, but I don’t want us bankrupt!”
