Santorum Supporter Stuns Andrea Mitchell With Memories Of How ‘The Gals’ Used Bayer Aspirin As Contraception

Video

Foster Freiss, the very wealthy business man backing Rick Santorum‘s campaign efforts, appeared on Andrea Mitchell Reports Thursday afternoon, where host Andrea Mitchell asked him whether he thought Santorum’s recent comments concerning social issues — such as those regarding, say, contraception and women in combat — would end up hurting his efforts at seeking the nomination.

Freiss had a chuckle at the very idea:

Well, I get such a chuckle when these things come up. Here we have millions of our fellow Americans unemployed, we have jihadists camps being set up in Latin America which Rick has been warning about, and people seem to be so preoccupied with sex that I think it says something about our culture. We maybe need a massive therapy session so we can concentrate on what the real issues are.

He also shared an anecdote. “In my day,” he told Mitchell, “they used Bayer aspirin for contraceptions. The gals put it between their knees and it wasn’t that costly.”

The pill? Hundreds of dollars per year.

Aspirin? Far less costly.

…Andrea Mitchell’s reaction to Foster Freiss’ comment? Priceless.

Aspirin between their knees for contraception? OMG!! The funny part is I think that he thinks it worked. lol

  • Anonymous

It would be funny if it wasn’t a true reflection of where the GOP is on cultural issues.

I’m sure that joke went over great in 1972  .  The fact that he’s still cracking it 40 years later and expecting a laugh speaks volumes.

Please step aside. right wing America. The Future is so much more interesting without you.

Does this mean Sarah Palin should give aspirin to her daughters?

  • Anonymous

If this is true that aspirin was used as a contraceptive once then I hope that a President Santorum outlaws aspirin as well. We will be a Christian nation again whether the left likes it or not.

This is 2012. Why in the hell is contraception an “issue”?

Republicans have nothing else to go after… they should go back demanding to see President Obama’s longer longer long form birth certifiable.

Andrea Michell is easily “stunned” when anyone is openly anti-left and looks like she just took a bite of green lemon.

After Palin’s speech in 2008 at the Republican Convention Andrea Mitchell looked like she’d just backed over her dog in the driveway. Or her broom after she left it parked behind the car. Whatever.

There ya go folks the Republican/Tea Party mindset.  Did you all catch they have NO Women on the contraception panel. Hmmmm If it wasn’t so sad and predictable I would laugh.

All the more reason to make aspirin a controlled substance available by prescription only and dispensed very sparingly for only the most extreme circumstances.

Freiss is an idiot, no wonder he’s backing Santorum!!

  • Anonymous

It is a stunning statement, if it were true.  Google it, its an old joke.  I don’t recall ever hearing it before, and I can’t imagine why anyone other than a professional comedian would bring it up during a conversation about a candidate they supposedly support.  That said, I guess the intent was to make Andrea look stupid and elitist – that was accomplished when the camera turned on.

  • Joseph Wilson

The usually unflappable Andrea Mitchell sat silently for several seconds, before she could think of anything to move along the conversation. The funny secret of many American insurance plans is their coverage of erectile dysfunction medication (like Viagra) and those are very expensive since there is no generic. If Santorum is the nominee, I imagine women voting in record numbers against him in a punch right to his family jewels.

  • Elle Grantham

    He’s convinced of it.

But the thing is, the 1% think of sex as 1. not all that difficult: make money, sex just comes, once a month or just enough to keep the missus from being too grumpy;  and 2. something the 99% aren’t entitled to, certainly not for fun, & just enough to keep the consumption numbers up. What’s the problem? The man goes out and earns a couple of million a year, if he’s lazy and ill-focussed that is, while the woman takes care of the home and the cleaning and cooking and the … what’s the other thing; lawn mowing? yeah, of course, but that’s not it … voting how the man votes? true, but that’s a given … oh yeah: the kids.

  • NDanielson

Yes, you oh-so-clever liberal. Just how did that work out for them???

Members were called Dixiecrats. (The term Dixiecrat is a portmanteau of Dixie, referring to the Southern United States, and Democrat.)
The party did not run local or state candidates and after the 1948
election as its leaders generally returned to the Democratic Party.[2]
The Dixiecrats had little short-run impact on politics. However, they
did have a long-term impact. The Dixiecrats began the weakening of the “Solid South” (the Democratic Party’s total control of presidential elections in the South).[3]

Good enough to keep you stupid, I guess.

But your racists remained true to the racist party! LOL

The States’ Rights Democratic Party dissolved after the 1948 election,
as Truman, the Democratic National Committee, and the New Deal Southern
Democrats acted to ensure that the Dixiecrat movement would not return
in 1952 presidential election. Some local diehards, such as Leander Perez of Louisiana, attempted to keep it in existence in their districts.[9]
Regardless of the power struggle within the Democratic Party concerning
segregation policy, the South remained a strongly Democratic voting
bloc for local, state, and federal Congressional elections, but not in
    presidential elections.

I love it when liberals try to be so cleaver only to prove their sheer ignorance at so many levels.

  • http://www.proactivepolitics.blogspot.com/ Norbit Peters

They’ve been raised to feed off the taxes embezzled from working Americans by the Democrats they elect.

Why work when you can stay at home, have fatherless babies, and let real working Americans pay for it – just by voting Democratic every couple of years!

We work for a living, Democrats vote for a living!

  • Kurt

I’m so tired of having to teach you guys history. It’s not about Republicans and Democrats, it’s about liberals and conservatives – and the terms are flexible depending on the time and place. At one time, Lincoln’s party was the liberal one.

Answer me this. Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms, both Dixiecrats who died unrepentant racists died as what? Democrats or Republicans? Byrd is irrelevant, he felt guilt for his past and changed with the Democratic Party. The Republican Party is now based in the old Dixiecrat “Solid South,” Democrats in the Northeast and West Coast. Things have flipped since the Civil War.

Now, go and spread forth the history among your Rush-listening brethren, ’cause I’m so tired of having to explain this BASIC history.

  • Anonymous

The Dixiecrats were and are first last and always, Democrats.

Dixiecrats are the yellowiest of Yellow Dog Democrats.

LBJ was afraid that if He could not apease the Dixiecrats it would split the Democrat Party for Decades.

    I am from the south.

You need to learn the difference between Dixiecrats, and Boll Weevils, and what and who Yellow Dogs are.

It was the Boll Weevil Democrats who came home to the Republican Party, and helped pass the Civil Rights acts of the 1960s.

If Obama created more jobs in His second year than Bush did in 8, Why are there 16+ million unemployed Americans listed on the U-6 roles of the BLS?

Yes, Explain the 16 Million underemployed, Unemployed, and those who have just given up?

Now explain if Obama is doing so great why the work force participation rate is only 63.7 %? Which means that 36.3% of the Work force is unemployed?

    Yeas explain that.

It is all documented at BLS on it’s web site.

I heard my mother say it before. According to my mother, my grandma used to give an aspirin  to her and my aunt when they would go out on dates when they were teenagers. I think the underlying lesson was abstinence, because back in those days it was unseemly for a unwed girl to get pregnant. I’m sure you recall the phrase “shotgun wedding”, don’t you?

  • NDanielson

Wow, you were paid as a social worker when all the government needs to do is put up “free” contraceptive dispensers? Interesting. You were just a high priced condom dispenser then? How’d all your “social” work work out for the country?

Now that you say it that way I think I have heard of it before – for exactly the reason you state.  Reminds me of an old Leave it to Beaver episode about being instructed on how to shave (since I’m a guy that was more memorable) and that if he practiced before he needed it he’d accelerate hair growth and then have to do it even if he doesn’t want to, so it scared Beaver in to not trying after all…   Some old lessons were kind of silly, but had good intentions.   That also reminds me of a conversation on The Five the other day about corporal punishment, and how Bob Beckel (being the oldest) recalled more severe punishment than any of the (younger) others.  I recall my mother (born in the late 30′s) describing how she and her siblings were beat with a belt to the point of bleeding.  Thankfully by the time I came around that kind of parenting was rare…

What you just said is nonsense. “Party of Segregation?” Republicans in the South are the ones gerrymandering districts so that the minority vote has less influence in proportion to their growing population ratio.

     1. Alan West is a member of the CBC.
     2. Alan West has virtually NO clout in the African-American community.

This is MY interpretation of Alan West:

Now, you ask WHY the vast majority of African-Americans like myself vote Democrat?

Because it’s in our own BEST INTEREST to.  Here’s one obvious reason:

The #1 employer of Black men, and the #2 employer of Black women is Government–Federal, State and Local.  One of the stated goals of the GOP?  Cut government spending/shrink the size of government–which will CUT Black jobs and SHRINK the size of the Black Middle Class.

Why the F would I as a Black man even dream of supporting a party like that?

The Republican implosion is just great!  Wow!  Mr. Friess, like it or not, you have gone viral!  Can Republicans find more ways to lose an election?  It’s fantastic.  Other than the lame candidates and their SuperPAC backers, they can blame Conservative pundits like Sean Hannity for the inability to field a competitive candidate.  As long as Sean is around, Republican may never win the Presidency again.

Tell us more shameful lies! Please. How many lies???

“One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity
to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them.
    That is our bottom line.”

    - President Bill Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998 “If Saddam rejects
peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to
seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq’s weapons of mass
    destruction program.”

    - President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998 “Iraq is a long
way from here, but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the
risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or
biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security
    threat we face.”

    - Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Feb 18, 1998 “He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983.”

    - Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998 “We
urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S.
Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if
appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond
effectively to the threat posed by Iraq’s refusal to end its weapons of
    mass destruction programs.”

    - Letter to President Clinton signed by Democratic Senators Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry and others, Oct. 9, 1998 “Saddam
Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass
destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and
he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process.”

    - Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998 “Hussein has … chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies.”

    - Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999 “There
is no doubt that Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs.
Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs
continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition,
Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the
cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that
will threaten the United States and our allies.”

    - Letter to President Bush signed by Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL) and others, Dec 5, 2001 “We
begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a
threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the
mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass
destruction and the means of delivering them.”

    - Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002 “We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country.”

    - Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002 “Iraq’s search for weapons of
mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume
that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power.”

    - Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002 “We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction.”

    - Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002 “The last UN
weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that
Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological
weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up
his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports
indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons.”

    - Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002 “I will be
voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use
force — if necessary — to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that
a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real
and grave threat to our security.”

    - Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002 “There is
unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to
develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the
next five years … We also should remember we have always
underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of
    mass destruction.”

    - Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002 “He has
systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every
significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy
his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he
    has refused to do”

    - Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002 “In the four
years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam
Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock,
his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also
given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda
members … It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein
will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical
warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.”

    - Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002 “We are in
possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein
has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the
production and storage of weapons of mass destruction.”

    - Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002 “Without
question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous
dictator, leading an oppressive regime … He presents a particularly
grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation
… And now he is miscalculating America’s response to his continued
deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction … So
the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real.”

    - Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

The THERAPY session we need as a culture relates NOT TO SEX as this wealthy idiot seems to enjoy discussing, but to the freedom an adult has to make an informed choice relating to their service and their health. The therapy is in reminding people that you cant discuss American Freedom or Liberty in one sentence, and then challenge the freedom of a man or woman to make their own informed choices. Its like people discussing the whole religious contraception BS. The CHURCH isn’t offering anything. The INSURANCE company that the church uses (a publicly traded tax paying company) provides the health care/contraception etc. The THERAPY we need is a gross increase in intelligence across the board and any argument to the contrary seems to fly in the face of data illustrating that we rank wayyy too low in the area of education.

? And what are you smoking?

Yes, what have the Democrats and Obama don’t to slow down the outsourcing of jobs, and business?

The Democrats took control of Congress Jan. 1, 2007 and presided over the largest loss of jobs in the nations history, The Democrats had control of Congress from 2007 to 2011, and The nation lost 16 million jobs, The Democrats wrote the budgets, 08-09- and didn’t pass a budget in 10-11- and still have not voted on a budget for 2012, they wrote the spending bills, they spent the money, they created the economic conditions that lead to 16 million unemployed Americans because the jobs disappeared, or went overseas.

And Obama has been in Office for 3 years, and What has He done?

    No budget since 2009,

No drop in the unemployment rates, still over 16 Million…

Business still going out of business or going overseas and out sourcing jobs……

The economy was supposed to be what would allow a Republican victory this year. That was what the GOP was counting on. They tried to ensure it by pushing policies at every level of government that would harm the economy. But now we’re actually in the 2012 election season and the economy is a strength of Obama, not a weakness. We’ve had two years of constant job growth thanks to Obama’s policies. The economy keeps on growing.

The Republicans are just left to pray that the economy will collapse again before November. They have to root against America in order to beat Obama.

Actually, it’s not a joke. Maybe you guys are alot younger than I am, but I’ve heard my mother say it before. According to my mother, my grandma used to give an aspirin to her and my aunt when they would go out on dates when they were teenagers as a stern reminder. I think the underlying lesson was abstinence, because back in those days it was unseemly for a unwed girl to get pregnant. According to my mother it was common practice back in those days.

     I heart liberals writes:

“You just did a great job describing your collective reliance on teh government instead of yourselves…”

Absolutely. We African-Americans find that we can rely on the federal government not to be as RACIST and DISCRIMINATORY against us as the White majority in the private sector.

    Evidence?

” I investigate discrimination in low wage labor markets by hiring young
men – who differ only by race, ethnicity, or criminal background – to
pose as job applicants, presenting identical qualifications to
employers for real entry level jobs. My work shows substantial evidence
of hiring discrimination, with black men receiving call-backs or job
offers at only half the rate of equally qualified whites. In fact, a
young black man with a clean record does no better in his search for
low wage work than a white man with a felony conviction.

    –Devah Pager, Sociologist, Princeton University
    http://www.princeton.edu/sociology/faculty/pager/

Blacks are often “last hired/first fired”, and when it comes to manufacturing, the decision of predominantly White CEO’s and Corporate executives to outsource factory labor overseas devastated black employment.

    I heart liberals writes:

“You, as a black man, might i suggest you try to get elected into office in a predominatly white liberal district.”

I’m a black man living in a predominantly White country. In about 30 years, that will no longer be the case.

What’s bizarre about his last comment, is that:
     a) given that he’s a baby boomer, he’s walking proof that when times get tough people have a lot of sex, and not all of them are married, and
     b) He was 21 when the pill came out, so they definitely had it in his day.

As much as religious organization don’t want to pay for people’s contraception, there is a lot of companies out there who would prefer not to pay 6-week’s maternity/paternity leave, or unnecessary dependent insurance benefits, either. If one add’s up those pennies, people in support of contraception win the jackpot.

The comments of one sociologist from princton does not equate to a universal truth.  The private sector is driven on performance and profit.  If you provide both of those, it is in the best interest of the company to keep you.   You can create boogy men, and justify poor work ethic with race all you want, but in the end of the day, every place I have ever worked, I have yet to see the dynamic that your smart guy from princton decribes.

Regarding your last comment, you missed the point completely.  My point was, white liberals wont elect you to congress….white conservatives will.

So if you district is liberal…well, wait about thirty years if you want to be a congressmen…if it is conservative, you can win now if there is an “R” next to your name..

And again, the biggest outsourcing of jobs happens in our own country, and is done by illegals….and it is your party that supports this the most…

Just like other studies showing racial discrimination in promotion, wages, health care, lending, housing and other basic facets of American life. You, like many other clueless at best, right winged White conservatives want to piss on our backs and continue to say it’s raining when confronted with evidence.
