Sheriff Joe Arpaio Holds Prison-Wide Christmas Caroling Contest

video

Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio is famous, to put it somewhat euphemistically, for thinking outside the pen when it comes to punishing his state’s criminals. Now the man who made headlines for making inmates don pink underwear is in the news yet again, this time for organizing a caroling contest among inmates, with the most angelic rendition of “All I Want for Christmas is You” winning a festive Christmas dinner.

Arpaio has drawn criticism — not to mention a few lawsuits — for another Christmas tradition he’s enforced: piping holiday songs into prison cells for twelve hours a day, including those by one of his favorite musical acts — Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Fox News’ Rick Folbaum has a bit of sage advice for this year’s participants:

Anyone care to research where Sheriiff Joe’s jurisdiction ranks in terms of re-offenders? King’s unsubstantiated blather isn’t good enough. I’d do it, but the browser on my phone is much too slow!

    Go Joe!

    Yeah, that’s cruel and unusual.

    Go Joe!

This is secondary material, but it gets you into the primary very easily.

In essence, bluster, theatrics, whoring for the media, little results. Except for some inmate deaths and some very expensive lawsuits.

In 1998, Arpaio commissioned a study by Arizona State University criminal justice professor Marie L. Griffin to examine recidivism rates based on conditions of confinement. Comparing recidivism rates under Arpaio to those under his predecessor, the study found that there was no significant difference in recidivism observed between those offenders released in 1989-1990 and those released in 1994-1995. Obviously, for all his bluster and tough-talk and sadistic treatment of prisoners, Joe Arpaio can’t keep them from re-offending. He knows this, yet he continues his practices proving that he is a psychopathic sadist who is just doing it for the lulz.

You damn fool. I wanted to know where his jurisdiction stacks against other jurisdictions, say in like California, Nevada, New Mexico, et al. And may I suggest something more reputable sounding than EncyclopediaDramatica?

    Douche…

My dad is retired in Sun City West, AZ in Mericopa County and the people there LOVE this guy… I mean LOVE him with like a 65% approval rating. But hay… having to sing for the sheriff is better than being anal raped in the shower… right.

  • shootfromthehip

They should have sang “By The Time I get To Arizona” by PE to that cruel man.

Oh my Christ, did you really just cite Encyclopedia Dramatica, Kook? Really? And so you could find some numbers from when Arpaio had been on the job for a whole 3 years, a decade and a half ago? I’m gobsmacked.

He certainly is more smarter and able than Sarah Palin..

I may not agree with him completely, but i do like his way of annoying the crap out of inmates. That will keep them from coming back to jail.

OH and BTW, it would suck if you were stuck in the jail for life with this guy ROFL, but who cares??

Looks like Crime is paying off very well for Joe .
Matter of fact . Crime is a money maker for the GOOD folks period . Imagine the unemployment rate if there were no Law jobs . This country would belly up . Prisons , Lawyer and so on . Too many to rap my mind around . Everybody following the law would cause a deep depression for sure .

The Sheriff has my vote for law enforcement officer of the decade. When my son becomes president, I hope he appoints Sheriff Arpaio to head up the FBI.
