Tavis Smiley And Cornel West Warn UK Riots Could Happen Here: ‘There Is A Bubbling’

Video

Tavis Smiley and Cornel West are not holding anything back in their media blitz, first suggesting President Obama declared war on the poor, then revealing how they aren’t on the White House guest list, and now predicting the London riots could definitely happen in America because of this country’s great wealth disparity. Smiley sums up his frustration with Obama by offering a bit of advice: “enough with the speeches about now it’s time to focus on jobs.”

In an interview with Jake Tapper on ABC’s Nightline, Smiley warned why riots in America would be possible:

“One percent of the people owning and controlling more wealth than 90% of Americans, that’s unsustainable. That math won’t hold up long-term. There is a bubbling, there is a restlessness.”

And West chimes in too with an analogy that might ring a few unpleasant bells with some observers:

“If you don’t treat poor and working people with dignity now, chickens are going to come home to roost later. And it won’t be about love and justice. It will be about revenge, hatred, and then we all go under.”

Whether or not the message West and Smiley have about poverty starts resonating, one thing is clear. These two are not happy with Obama, especially since they feel Republicans know he compromises too much and “laugh when he’s not around.”

When Glenn Beck tried to say this same thing, he was attacked and ridiculed by the Left.  How will they respond now that Cornel West and Tavis Smiley are the messengers?

  • Moderate

When you give away free stuff, the recipients are mad because the did not get enough and those that got nothing are really mad.

  • Anonymous

Fact: LA riots where mainly just a steal for free spree! They call them Rave parties now!

  • Michelle

HA, you beat me to it!

They won’t comment as is typical with the dishonest bomb-throwing left on Mediaite, and in general.  They’ll lodge some lame attacks and change the story.  You watch and see, I’m psychic.

Perhaps, positively because these gentlemen are presenting in the argument in a calm, dispassionate manner, without threatening the end of the worlds as we no it. They recognize the fundamental truth that in a democracy, people are willing to sacrifice for the common good, and they have done so repeatedly. They also recognize the fact that in a democracy when the sacrifice is not shared, when the sacrifice falls almost exclusively on the shoulders of those least able to bear it, that the outcome is predictable. I have written virtually since the Tories won a plurality of the seats in Parliament and formed a coalition with the Liberal Democrats to govern and began an austerity program which calls upon the poor and working classes to sacrifice, which requires the middle class to accept a lower standard of living and which leaves unscathed the wealthiest, this was going to happen.

These gentlemen also recognize that there are limits to which income disparity may be pushed. That no one begrudges the wealthy hoarding their religious icons, whether those icons be George Washington or Elizabeth II, R, but at a time of called sacrifice, the INCREASING disparity between the poor, working and middle classes and the wealthy will boil over into what have seen on the streets of London and elsewhere in England.

This is predictable. It is in the nature of democracies when these conditions occur. It is not rocket science.

Those who do not understand this do not understand history, sociology, anthropology or the human condition.

Those who exploit the circumstances for their own narrow self interests, like Beck, Lard Limbaugh, O’Hannity and the T-Partee Terrorists in the Congress, are scorned and be labeled the avowed enemies of democracy. These ills are in that sense malicious and destructive.

I know you understand the difference as much as you would like to deny it.

There’s a whole lot of people out here more than ready for the bottom-feeding parasites. There are groups in California, and other states,  who are just waiting for the parasites, and politicians, to give them the justification they need to overthrow this government by force. These two clowns had better just might get their wish.

They’ll burn the cities. They’ll get their asses shot if they make it to the suburbs. And don’t even think about going rural. They’ll never find the bodies.

    Unlike the Brits, we’re armed.

Luckily, the progressives are rarely seen outside of their rooms. Both of their answers to The Tea Party movement were utter failures and this call for violence by the lefties will fail as well. Mark my words.

  • Anonymous

I am hopeful that Obama’s real progressive projects will come to light during his second term, once he’s freed from his shackles, so to speak.

As Ralph Nader said on election day, Obama has to choose if he is going to be “Uncle Sam for the people of this country, or Uncle Tom for the giant corporations.”

  • Texan

Well troll, the latter seems to be true.

  • Texan

Stop licking yourself, phony. At least go in the other room.

These guys should keep their opinions to themselves as it counts for nothing. The rioting in UK has nothing to do with Politics (most of the rioters were from different background), the rioting is purely based on GREED. It was an opportunity that many took part in and are now regretting (well those who were caught or surrendered).

  • Michelle

Pull, they are screaming for distribution of wealth and railing against the “rich”.  That’s as liberal as it gets.

  • Michelle

Bull, not pull, before I’m cited by the Royal Spelling and Grammar Czar.

  • Greg

I believe that both are mistaken.  There is a clear historical link between economic austerity and social disorder in Europe.

“Does fiscal consolidation lead to social unrest? From the end of the Weimar Republic in Germany in the 1930s to anti-government demonstrations in Greece in 2010-11, austerity has tended to go hand  in hand with politically motivated violence and social instability. In this paper, we assemble crosscountry evidence for the period 1919 to the present, and examine the extent to which societies become unstable after budget cuts. The results show a clear positive correlation between fiscal retrenchment and instability. We test if the relationship simply reflects economic downturns, and conclude that this is not the key factor. We also analyse interactions with various economic and political variables. While autocracies and democracies show a broadly similar responses to budget cuts, countries with more  constraints on the executive are less likely to see unrest as a result of austerity measures. Growing media penetration does not lead to a stronger  effect of cut-backs on the level of unrest. ”

At the same time violent crime has fallen in American during the “Great Recession”.

“So the Great Recession should have produced a crime wave. Instead, the doubling of the unemployment rate did nothing of the sort to violent crime, which reached a 40-year low in 2010. What gives?”

how are we not already “redistributing” wealth, michelle?

As usual, you are dead wrong.  The difference here is obvious to all.  West and Smiley threaten riots.  Becks warns against them.  Objective parties can see which of those two approaches is opposed to violence.

Maybe you should go back to playing the race card. That is, after all, your specialty.

As opposed to “re-distributed” upward? That’s what the government does. Your false equivelence between ‘bush tax cuts’ and “redistributing wealth” is laughable. Letting people keep thier own money = Wealth redistribution. Brilliant.

Something wrong with that? It’s totally legal. I’m locked and loaded and proud of it. ;)

  • Valkyrie101

Well, no it isn’t. Riots are one thing, we have had many in the past, but the biggest riot ever was strictly conservative, it was called the civil war, and far worse than the sum total of all other riots to a power of ten. And what was that riot about? The same crap the conservatives scream about now, smaller government, less taxes, and the state’s right to oppress their own people.

Rioting, very similar to what is taking place in Great Britain  has already happened here, numerous times.  Admittedly, there have been “Police Riots,” where Law Enforcement has gone after the protesters such as Selma, Alabama.  Also, the Democratic National Convention of 1968 has been called a “Police Riot,” with good reason.

However,  The Rioting in England, according to the rioters, is because one of the Cops killed one of the “Bad Guys,” which happens to Bad Guys now and then.  However, The rioting, typically morphed into a giant, rationalized orgy of thievery, vandalism and violence.  All because it was somebody else’s fault.  Which, admittedly, does sound like something the Democratic Party in America would come up with!

Moreover:  Recall Watts in 1965, Newark and Detroit in 1967 and LosAngeles in 1992?  What may have been a legitimate complaint by minority Citizens of America, quickly (immediately) became an excuse to balance the so called books and take (steal) from the haves, so the have nots, could have something!

Whether, we have been coddling Communism, Islam or our own misguided citizens, America has been plagued by preferring to be “Mr. Nice Guy.”  Niccolo Machiavelli questioned in, “The Prince,” written in the 15th century:  ”Is it better for a Prince to be loved or feared?”

Maybe America, both internally and externally needs to acquire some respect, maybe even fear from our detractors?

Look the standard for civil unrest, including a half million dead or so, is the civil war started by white southern slave owners, and it exceeds all other civil unrest by blacks or anyone else in history many times over. In fact there were two white civil wars, the Whiskey (tax) Rebellion, and the Civil War. Who says that a little letting lose in the streets isn’t just what the doctor ordered as opposed to armed rebellion.

I am not sure who “you two” are?  But, I am aware, all too aware of the events in Wisconsin as they are only a piece of a larger puzzle.

I coined a phrase a year ago: “What would Lenin do?”  This, is what Lenin would do and his progeny have been taught well.  Disrupt the system, wait or even incite the EVENT.  Then seize total power.  There are books and propaganda on the subject, ad nauseum.

For example, Governor Romney was hassled by “agents provateur” recently.  The children of Lenin, the acolytes of Obama engage in such behavior, unashamedly, unapolagetically.  When those “useful idiots” move on to violence, again, without pity or remorse for their actions.  Such are the tactics of the Socialist-Liberals, the spawn of Lenin.

Question:  Will the right succumb and fight back in kind?  If so, will that precipitate the Leninesque “event” I referred too?

I have seen members of the Right protest funerals, Abortion clinics, various right wing social issues.  However,  The Right does not desire the destruction of the American Philosophy.  Rather they/we seek to retain it, hence, we tend not be vulgar, profane and threatening.

Are you trying to make a humorous point?

In my assessment, “letting loose” would be: the rest of the citizenry coming out of their homes and pushing the vile, writhing tapeworms into the sewers to be washed away.

The great “silent majority” may have to stand fast, someday soon.  Hopefully, with a  competent and sympathetic Government in support.  NOT a Government that seems, all too often, to support the Bad Guys!

Smiley and West are two of the greatest practitioners of hate speech among the black elite in America. Put hoods and swastika armbands on them and you’ll see them for what they are. Thank god that, unlike Hitler, they don’t have an army to go with their rhetoric or it’d be lights out for white folks.

Separating intent from an ability to carry out that intent leaves us looking at them in a different light, as hapless clowns, just as Louis Farrakahn is Hitler without an army. Nevertheless, they teach race hatred towards whites and it should as no surprise that between their hateful rhetoric and rap music, black kids think it’s perfectly justified for them to commit crimes and loot stores because they live in an eternally unjust world that has it in for black folks.

Poor Nazis: they felt slighted by the world too and we all know the culture-wide sense of love that engendered and the results: a nation gone insane.

That has always been the issue of concern. Not that the masses would peaceably usher out the republicans at the polls, but whether after that happens, after 2012 brings the end of the world for conservatives, at the polls, but whether the losing side in the democratic process would accept the outcome. But I guarantee our guys got a handle on those militia boys.

You bet they can happen here. The pot has long been simmering.  And we will be far less “prepared” than the UK.  We are too preoccupied to think about it.  We are busy, “nation-building” elsewhere.  Right, BushDrunk??

You cannot continue to have 1% hold all the wealth of a nation and all the political power too. In this system it is inevitable that the same people that have their arms ready are some day going to be a target of these uber wealthy eventually. The same Conservative and liberal factions that we all identify with are going to sell us all out to conserve their strangle hold of power. So why you all bicker among yourselves about whose theory of demise will be more prophetic, You might try to come up with some real solutions to actually preserve this Democracy. We have to find a way to play a game in which we all win, but the name calling and other bullshit has to stop. Weather it is a new system call Sociocapitalism I am for real solutions that gives the little guy a chance at upward mobility. Just my 2 cents If  I had the answers I’d share so we could fix this mess.
