Woman Who Texted Her Way Into A Fountain Appears On GMA To Discuss Legal Steps

Video

This week’s viral video celebrity, Cathy Cruz Marrero, is quickly achieving worldwide fame as the “fountain lady” who unfortunately took a tumble into a mall fountain when she was more focused on texting than walking. She appeared on Good Morning America and told George Stephanopoulos about the embarrassing incident and her next legal steps.

Marrero seemed equally mad about the fact that no one in the mall helped her after she fell and that the video has now become a YouTube sensation, saying “I admit it was funny, but nobody took my feelings into consideration.” Her lawyer was unintentionally funny too, commenting that they are “at the early stages of our investigation” and planned on, at the very least, “requesting or demanding an apology.” Hopefully any legal action does not have a chilling effect on people posting embarrassing videos on YouTube, otherwise what would we do on slow news days?

The interview ended with a chilling and tearful warning from Marrero: “do not text and walk.” Stephanopoulos said “thank you for being such a good sport,” apparently not realizing that “good sports” usually don’t resort to lawyering up and have reactions more similar to Steve Carrell’s character in The Office after he famously fell in a koi pond.

Doing her part to add to the list of infamous frivolous lawsuits in America. Way to grab those 15 minutes. If this moves forward she better be admonished by the judge and forced to pay court costs.

  • espo222

Wow, this woman is an idiot and the lawyer should be dis-barred along with Gloria Alred.

  • redleaf

I want to find one person in America who is even remotely sympathetic to this idiot.
Then we can tell them both to screw off.

Okay, let’s think about this for a second.

But for the fact that she appeared on Good Morning America would anyone know who the hell she is?

    Obviously not

    I smell a rat

There goes any claim she might have had for damages.

She was in and out in a mater of seconds. What could anyone have done?

  • jo hoochie

The lawyer will bring home more money than her if it even gets to court. She just made a fool out of herself by being on TV! She should have put it on Funniest home video’s and then she might have won the 100k at the end of the show.

  • paulmdoro

Maybe she did it on purpose.

If I was a writer for SNL, I think I’d be working on a Fred Armisen bit right now.

The sad thing is my 12 years old gets it. When I took him to McDonalds to get hot cocoa, he asked me why it says on the cup that it’s hot. He doesn’t understand how anyone wouldn’t just know that and I had to explain the million dollar lawsuits to him. Lack of personal responsibility is a HUGE factor in the problems we have in this country IMO.

This is one thing I can understand. I was in a sporting goods store trying on roller blades and I fell and broke both my wrists. There were 2 employees standing right there and neither one offered to help or even asked if I was ok. I couldn’t believe it!! Of course, I didn’t sue because it’s just not in my nature.

    Sue for what?

Their behavior sounds repugnant, but where was the negligence?

  • Color Me Badd

No one ever would have known it was her, now everyone does. Makes sense this idiot walked into a fountain though.

  • Seeing 2012 From My Window

Well, notsofast, I’m sure alot of people would sue just because they got hurt in the store. I mean I heard a story once of someone who broke into someones house, got hurt and then sued the home owner!! It seems you can sue for anything.

You couldn’t sue for shit. That’s why you didnt sue. You are a typical teabagger calling for tort reform all over the damn place until somethings happens to you and then you start thinking lawsuit.

She disabuses people of that notion all the time.

She had a person whose brakes went out and she crashed into the car in front of her. She was sued for the repairs for the damages, but she won because their was no evidence that she had a problem with her brakes before the accident or that she knew she had a problem with her brakes.

I like watching the meltdown of libs.

BTW, did you see the 2-fer in lib hatred yesterday?

Cohen does he thing in the House calling Repubs Nazis, and not to be outdone, the lib hater, Joy Behar, has Joan Rivers on who proceeds to call SP a Nazi.

Hey libs, you are making the word “Nazi” not sound so bad anyone, just like ya did with the word “racist.”

I had to meet a repair person at home earlier, and I had on cable “news”. There was Mark Kelly talking about his wife, and I thought to myself: “This man just doesn’t get it. His wife is not a victim. Sarah Palin is the victim of Tucson”.

Then I saw the story about the Florida police officers shot today, two of whom were killed, and after I reminded myself that guns don’t kill people, I said to myself: “Palin is the victim again. These officers are taking up television time that Sarah Palin might have used.”

Since Sarah won’t say it, however: to the survivor, my prayers for your speedy recovery. To the families of the slain officers, my prayers that your loved ones find the peace and joy awaiting them in our Lord’s Nearer Presence and my prayers for you that find consolation in your faith and in your continued love for those who you have lost.

  • JustWondering

You Americans crack me up. You are always so lawsuit happy. Most Western-democratic countries do not have this reflex of suing like you do. Citizens in these countries (I live “socialistic” Canada) assume responsibility for their actions. Or they would be ridiculed if they even thought of suing.

I guess lawsuits are part of the great “capitalist” system that you hold in such esteem. The great and greedy system that almost brought down the world’s other economies.

I wanted ask that you not make this a liberal/left vs. conservative/right issue but having read the other posts I see it’s too late for that.

Of course you can sue anyone at any time for anything. That doesn’t mean that the lawsuit is not frivolous or not a waste of the court’s time. They need to introduce a fine for filing such obviously frivolous lawsuits, and slap them with it if the judge rules it as such. The current clog of courtcases would be reduced significantly, and people might begin to see “justice” in a timely fashion again.

At least in the UK, the loser of a lawsuit must pay for BOTH lawyers. A lot less incentive to file unless you’re absolutely sure you’ll win.

  • am_underground

It’s a damn shame that not all of the douchnozzels who are constantly text, no matter where they’re at, don’t fall into to holes or fountains. I watched two nerds yesterday at lunch and one never ever put his phone down or even looked at his lunch guest and the only time he stopped was to put a fork in his mouth. Got what have we become when in a live social environment, you have to be on a phone.
