‘They Just Elected Donald Trump President’: Marco Rubio Reacts to Ex-President Being Found Guilty on All Counts

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) slammed the guilty verdict handed down to Donald Trump while simultaneously claiming it will send the former president back to the White House.

On Thursday, a Manhattan jury found Trump guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments to prevent extramarital affairs from coming to light during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Conservatives predictably reacted with outrage while also insisting the verdict will only help Trump’s campaign.

Shortly after the verdict was announced, Rubio phoned into Special Report on Fox News to give his reaction.

“They just elected Donald Trump president,” the senator declared. “So, politically I think it’s good. I think, unfortunately, they’ve made a travesty, a mockery of our criminal justice system.”

Rubio then likened the United States to dictatorships around the world. He slammed Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Judge Juan Merchan, the jury, and Merchan’s daughter, who is a Democratic political consultant.

“I think it’s terrible,” he went on. “I think what this showed today is that if they can go after a former president with a ridiculous charge like this and gain a conviction, they can go after anybody. Most people can’t afford to fight this stuff off.”

“This is an ugly, ugly blemish to our reputation around the world and frankly, to the basic concepts a lot of people have of our criminal justice system here in our country.”

A bitter opponent of Trump’s during the 2016 Republican presidential primary, Rubio is now reportedly on the former president’s shortlist to be his vice presidential running mate.
