Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign reported that a whopping $310 million was raised in the month of July, with record-breaking figures posted after Harris took over for President Joe Biden following his withdrawal on July 21.
Harris’s July haul also dwarfed Trump’s, whose camp reported $137 million for the month of July (during which time the candidate survived an assassination attempt and formally accepted his nomination at the Republican National Convention). The Harris campaign, along with committees affiliated with her campaign, also reported $377 million cash on hand, outpacing former Donald Trump’s campaign, which reported $327 million.
The Biden-turned-Harris campaign also became the fastest presidential campaign to reach the $1 billion mark.
Harris’s entry into the presidential campaign injected both cash and enthusiasm into the race, with Harris raking in a record $81 million in grassroots donations just 24 hours after announcing her candidacy. The big donors who had threatened to withhold their cash until Democrats made a change to the ticket also stepped up, pledging $150 million during those same 24 hours. In the days that followed, a series of Zoom-based fundraisers took place that raised over $20 million for Harris.
The Harris campaign also reported that two-thirds of their donations came from first-time donors, and many of those donations were $200 or less.
