CNN’s Chris Wallace Asks Jon Hamm If Elon Musk-Like Character Is Based On ‘A Specific Billionaire?’
CNN anchor Chris Wallace asked Morning Show actor Jon Hamm if an Elon Musk-like character was based on “a specific billionaire?”
Wallace interviewed Hamm for this week’s edition of his Max series Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace on a variety of topics, including his role in the newest season of the Apple TV hit.
Wallace described Hamm’s character as Musk-like at the top of the show, but Hamm told him that “the short answer is” no, he did not base the character portrayal on Musk:
WALLACE: You are really busy these days. You just finished the third season of the streaming series, The Morning Show. And you play a tech billionaire who’s thinking of buying a television network, and we have a scene where Jennifer Aniston who was an anchor on The Morning Show asks you why you’re thinking of buying the television network.

WALLACE: Did you have a specific billionaire in mind as you played that part?
HAMM: No. is the short answer. But obviously, as you can tell from that clip, the resonance is fairly obvious of what we’re talking about. And you know, you see it in when someone like Jeff Bezos buys the Washington Post and you see when someone like Elon buys Twitter and people at a certain point, you feel like these massive multi billionaires are responding to something that they feel is, you know, a disturbance in the force for wanting a better word, and rephrase.
And they think because they have the hubris and the money, that they alone can fix it. Now whether they can or not, I think it’s still up for debate. But as my character in that says that there’s not a lot of people with their hands in the air.
I think there’s an awful lot of people who are invested in the status quo, too. And the status quo has gotten us very far. But it’s also gotten us into I think, what we’re looking at now politically and culturally, which is a bit of a quagmire.
