Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) is getting roasted on Twitter for bizarrely comparing the left to comic book villains.
On his new podcast, Verdict with Ted Cruz, the Republican senator went off on a tangent about how the views of environmentalists align with those of the antagonists in Avengers: Endgame and Watchmen.
“What is interesting, and Endgame is curious, have you noticed in how many movies, how often rabid environmentalists are the bad guys?” said Cruz.
“Whether it’s Thanos, or go to Watchmen, where the view of the left is people are a disease,” he added. “They buy into the Malthusian line that there are too many people in the world, that people are bad, and everything would be better if we had fewer people. I mean, Thanos wanted to eliminate 50 percent of the life forms in the universe with one finger snapping.”

Many of the creators behind some of Hollywood’s most popular comic book movies were quick to mock Cruz’s theory that superhero film’s portray their villains as environmentalists.
Seth Rogen, who’s been involved with several comic book projects as an actor and producer, responded, “Let’s not focus on the fact that @tedcruz doesn’t understand movies and focus more on the fact that he inspired a deadly insurrection by perpetuating lies about mass voter fraud.”
Lila Byock, the writer and producer behind HBO’s Watchmen series, asked, “Literally what the fuck are you talking about?”
Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn quipped, “Maybe he can start with pronouncing Thanos correctly & then work his way up to making sense.”
Other notable figures who weighed in on Cruz’s comments included Doctor Strange writer C. Robert Cargill, Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar, comic book writer Tom King and more.

Hi, @SenTedCruz, Watchmen writer/producer here. Literally what the fuck are you talking about? https://t.co/9s9nqHcPke

Maybe he can start with pronouncing Thanos correctly & then work his way up to making sense. https://t.co/jZ6hNm1mYL

Hey @tedcruz, I say this as a comic book writer, as someone who served his country in two wars, as someone who saw with my own eyes the insurrection of 1/6:
Senator, you’re a bad guy, you’re a villain, you’re a traitor—and, again and again and again, you’re a loser.
Resign. https://t.co/j682cGLfkJ

My favorite part is when he mentions WATCHMEN, clearly means the show, and realizes he’s about to say the quiet part loud again.

I’m actually amazed how much Cruz knows about Avengers. And going back to the original Watchmen book for Veidt’s plan to sacrifice millions of New Yorkers for the greater global plan. I feel like I’m hallucinating this interview in lockdown Day 300… https://t.co/oHlYsMyktU

Ted. You’re the giant squid everyone should be united against. https://t.co/iGxG7SihVI

Ted Cruz thinking the villains are the heroes is pretty on brand. https://t.co/CTfdIcGOGz

I really wish Ted Cruz would stop trying to quote pop culture. He doesn’t understand it, he only sees the surface elements and butchers it badly. https://t.co/8ExJDa6ONy

Thanos didn’t think half the population mattered, which is exactly how the president Ted Cruz spent the last four years worshipping felt. https://t.co/9G4j2FZPWE

Having stood behind the counter at a comic shop for years and overheard many dumb and pretentious theories on Watchmen, this is a new one on me. https://t.co/3vWxlQj3Wc
