At Trump’s New Hotel, You Can Pay $140 for a Spoonful of Wine
The new Trump Hotel in Washington, D.C. is giving the American people something they really don’t want- wine, but in much smaller portions than they’re used to. Now on the menu at the hotel bar are spoonfuls of wine that range in price from $15 to $140 an ounce. The Washingtonian got some boots on the ground to sample the stuff.

All of the wines available by the ounce are made by the same Hungarian winemaker, Royal Tokaji. The 2007 Royal Tokaji Essencia has less than 3 percent alcohol, and goes for $140 per spoonful. On the winemaker’s website it says that it is “the truest expression of terroir known to man,” which is exactly what you would expect the brand selected by Trump to say about themselves.
The purpose is to be able to taste expensive wines without breaking the bank, though at $140 a sip it hardly seems worth it- you’ll be way too sober to handle the “he several dozen protesters parading out front,” and the bar patrons who “stalk” the lobby wearing “Make America Great Again” hats.
