Charlie Trotter’s Widow to Open Library, School in Chef’s Name (Tear)

As chefs continue to remember the legacy of Charlie Trotter, who passed away last November, there’s a glimmer of good news: Trotter’s widow has announced new plans for a library and education center in his name.

Crain’s Chicago Business reports on Rochelle Smith Trotter’s plans to open the Charlie Trotter Library and Charlie Trotter Center for Excellence. In a release, Trotter says the center will focus on the late chef’s philosophy when it came to fine dining, wine, and service.

No word yet on when the library and school will open, but Trotter is putting together a board of directors and advisory committee to get the job done. Meanwhile, chef David Bouley hosted a tribute dinner in Trotter’s honor last night at the James Beard House, and other restaurants are following suit. La Belle Vie in Minneapolis extended its Charlie Trotter tribute menu until January 19th, with dishes like spiny lobster with potato gnocchi, poussin with duck gizzard, and salmon and seared foie gras. Last night, the James Beard Foundation posted a photo of Bouley with Rochelle Smith Trotter, and JBF president Susan Ungaro.
