Chick-fil-A ‘Tastes Like Hate’ Vandal Comes Forward
Today, in the great Chick-fil-A Gay Marriage Cluster-Cluck of 2012, the vandal who graffitied the message “Tastes Like Hate” on the front of a Southern California Chick-fil-A chain (accompanied by a cute cow) came forward.
“Everybody is entitled to free speech, but it seems like for the gay tribe, this is more of an issue of equal rights — human rights,” Manny Castro, an openly gay artist, told The Huffington Post in an exclusive interview. “I’m against what these people stand for, what this company stands for. They’re trying to take away what little rights we already have.”
And, while he accepts the criticism he received from both sides of the argument — Chick supporters who argue that Dan Cathy’s views are a First Amendment issue, and gay supporters who disagreed with Castro’s “two wrongs make a right” approach — he somewhat dejectedly acknowledged that his flirtation with rebelliousness ultimately didn’t make much difference.
“It’s paint on a wall,” he said. “It got removed in less than an hour. It’s not that much of a crime — it’s a protest.”
