Hasbro Caves To 13-Year-Old’s Petition And Creates Gender-Neutral Easy Bake Oven…Sort Of
They are creating a gender-neutral Easy-Bake Oven. It’s just not really so much in response to 13-year-old McKenna Pope and her 4-year-old Easy-Bake-lusting little brother Gavyn.
Yes, McKenna’s petition to Hasbro for a gender-neutral with was darling. And yes, many a celebrity chef, including Bobby Flay and Michael Lomanaco, jumped aboard the bandwagon in support of a gender-neutral Easy-Bake that boys, too, would be comfortable playing with, since the allure of pastry chef-ing knows no gender bounds. And it’s true that McKenna, after her story went viral, snagged a “marketing meeting” with Hasbro. But that meeting was just so she could see the prototype of — voila! — the all-new boy-friendly Easy-Bake Oven.
In truth, Hasbro had been developing the black, blue, and silver model for the past 18 months, to be released Summer 2013. But McKenna got a special sneak peek and her brother got his Christmas Easy-Bake Oven early.
“I think that they really met most or even all of what I wanted them to do, and they really amazed me,” said McKenna.
Gavyn’s review: “Awesome.”
