Singer Kelis Releases New Cookbook, My Life on a Plate
These days it’s rare for one to focus on just one job and this is especially true for R&B singer, Kelis. Best known for her single “Milkshake,” the “I’m Bossy” singer has ventured off into the culinary industry.
Kelis released a cookbook called, My Life on a Plate, which features recipes accompanied by personal stories. So, what brought on the transition from singer to chef? A fallout with her recored label in 2006 while recording her most recent album, Kelis Was Here brought on the new career path.
Trading in her microphone for an apron, Kelis enrolled herself in Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in Los Angeles. She stated, “I’m an all or nothing person anyway, so if I’m going to do something, I feel like I should really do it. I don’t like pussyfooting around.”
Kelis is a woman of her word and is taking her new career in the culinary industry very serious. She’s got a show on the Cooking Channel called Saucy and Sweet and is even working on a line of sauces pending FDA approval!
My Life on a Plate consists of a variety of recipes; from popular Puerto Rican dishes like arroz con gandules (rice and pigeon peas) to Mamoun-inspired spinach chickpea fritters, there’s a recipe for everyone.
