Dan Abrams’ Law&Crime Acquired in Reported Nine Figure Deal

Law&Crime Network, the legal and true crime network and production company started by Mediaite founder Dan Abrams, has been acquired by tech startup Jellysmack.
Axios reporter Sara Fischer broke the news of the acquisition, and reported the deal values Law&Crime at a whopping nine figures, which she called “an extraordinary outcome” for Abrams based on how little money was raised.
The leadership of Law&Crime will remain in place, with Dan Abrams as CEO, Rachel Stockman as president and Andrew Eisbrouch as COO and general counsel.
Abrams said in a statement:
I’m excited to join forces with a team that has demonstrated unparalleled expertise in maximizing the reach and impact of digital content. Together, we can take the Law&Crime Network to new heights, reaching a global audience that is increasingly hungry for captivating legal and true crime stories.
Since its founding in 2015, Law&Crime has evolved from a website and network offering coverage of live trials, to a true crime and legal news juggernaut, boasting over 5 million subscribers on YouTube and 10 million followers across social media. The network has a successful production arm that has developed documentaries and programming for A&E, HBO and Netflix among many others.
Jellysmack, launched in 2016, uses data and artificial intelligence to recognize and invest in top video content creators, according to a press release. The Law&Crime Network marks Jellysmack’s largest acquisition to date.
“This acquisition aligns seamlessly with our mission to provide high-quality content that resonates with global audiences across platforms,” said Jellysmack President Sean Atkins. “Dan Abrams’ expertise and his network’s impressive track record in legal and true crime storytelling make it a perfect fit for Jellysmack and creates exciting new synergies and opportunities for our creators.”
Axios reported that the deal “gives Jellysmack access to a huge amount of professional true crime content, as well as production and distribution capabilities that it can use to bolster the work of the 150+ true crime creators it already works with.”
