The clothing brand American Eagle has released its first statement since its ad campaign with actress Sydney Sweeney went viral last week.
“‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans,” the statement read. “Her jeans. Her story. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”

Videos from the original campaign include Sweeney seeing a poster of herself that says she has “great genes.” The word “genes” is replaced with “jeans” later on. In another video, the actress refers to her jeans/genes, saying, “My jeans are blue.”
Critics denounced the post as a dog whistle and “nazi propaganda,” while right-wing media pounced on the backlash as a caricature of woke outrage.
This, in turn, spawned media stories about Fox News’ constant coverage of the “scandal” itself, in comparison to their sparse coverage of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
