3 Dead, Others Injured as Suspect Rams Car Into Pedestrians, Stabs Others Outside Manchester Synagogue in ‘Terrorist Attack’

At least three people have been killed after a suspect rammed a car into pedestrians outside a synagogue in Manchester, England, on Thursday before getting out and stabbing others — in what authorities are calling a “terrorist attack.”

The chaotic scene unfolded at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall on the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur.

Greater Manchester Police later confirmed two people were killed. The suspect was also killed when he was shot by responding police officers.

Later Thursday, police declared the incident was a “terrorist attack.”

“Paramedics arrived at the scene at 9.41 and are tending to members of the public, currently four members of the public with injuries caused by both the vehicle and stab wounds,” Greater Manchester Police said in a statement posted to X. “Members of the public are asked to avoid the area while the police continue to deal with the incident.”

A video posted to social media shows police surrounding the suspect, warning onlookers to “get back” because the man had a bomb. The officers are seen shooting the man as he tried to get up.

“He has a bomb — go away!” one of the officers is heard shouting.

The same video shows one of the victims, motionless in a pool of blood.

“I’m appalled by the attack at a synagogue in Crumpsall,” U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a statement posted to X. “The fact that this has taken place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, makes it all the more horrific. My thoughts are with the loved ones of all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency.”
