Biden Doesn’t Rule Out Sending Additional Forces to Afghanistan Following Explosions in Kabul
President Joe Biden said on Thursday that he would send additional U.S. forces to Afghanistan if requested by the U.S. military following an explosion earlier in the day outside the airport in the Afghan capital of Kabul.
“If they need additional force, I will grant it,” said Biden in response to a question from NBC News’ Kelly O’Donnell, whom Biden called on in taking questions from the press following his remarks in the aftermath of the explosion outside the airport in the Afghan capital of Kabul.
“With regard to finding, tracking down, the ISIS commanders who ordered this…we will find ways of our choosing, without large military operations, to get them,” added Biden.
The explosions killed 12 U.S. service members and injured 15 others – the deadliest attack against U.S. forces in Afghanistan since 2011 and the first U.S. military casualties in the country since Feb. 8, 2020. In total, 90 people were killed, while 150 others were injured.
