Bill Maher Mocks Trump Fans Who Say ‘God Saved’ Him From Assassination

Comic, pundit, and podcast host Bill Maher mocked the idea that God saved President Donald Trump from being assassinated, a popular running theme among MAGA supporters that Trump himself has embraced.

Veteran actor Esai Morales was a guest on this week’s edition of Maher’s Club Random Podcast, during which Trump was one of many topics of conversation.

When Morales brought up faith in a higher power, Maher brought up the Trump assassination try, and asked why God would spare Trump but not Trump supporter and former firefighter Corey Comperatore, the spectator who was killed in the incident:

ESAI MORALES: I’m religious, but I’m not religious. You know what I mean? And people go, oh, I’m spiritual as a fad, but I just know something, somebody out there in here all around loves me enough that has not allowed me to destroy myself.

BILL MAHER: But what do you say to the person who gets eaten, that why didn’t the God love him? You know what I mean? What about all the people who have the shitty outcome?

ESAI MORALES: A very good point.

BILL MAHER: I used to say that about the Trump assassination when people would say, Bill, don’t you think that’s staged? I’m like, you moron, of course it’s not staged. Among…

ESAI MORALES: But I wondered about that, too, though. Oddly enough, you know why? Because he went down, then he come back and it’s all, yeah.

BILL MAHER: Yeah, but okay, a bullet did go (CROSSTALK). That’s my point. It couldn’t have been staged. And, you know, people say, “God saved Trump.”.

Where was the God for the other guy?

ESAI MORALES: Yeah. And here’s what I will tell you about that. I do believe life is eternal. This is just a phase. What happens to us here is like a gestation period. You’re alive before you’re born, but you’re not technically born. No, let’s get into abortion. No. I’m saying you’re alive. You are evolving. People think, are you into creation or evolution? And I’m like, I don’t think they’re mutually exclusive.

BILL MAHER: Really? (Yeah) I do.

ESAI MORALES: We evolve as people. Don’t you? Our creation is-

BILL MAHER: Well, creationism says the world is 6,000 years old.

ESAI MORALES: That’s literal, yeah, but I believe we were—again, our holy books are ill-preserved records of God-knowing men.

BILL MAHER: But, you know, this is what George Bush used to say when he was president. Well, he was trying to, it was a big issue. Should we teach creationism in school? And he would say, teach evolution and creationism. Teach them both. And I would say no, stupidity is not another form of knowledge. It’s just a different thing on its own and you shouldn’t teach both. You’re allowed to believe whatever you want. I think…

ESAI MORALES: I disagree with that. I think you should teach both and eventually you don’t have one doesn’t have to like we as human beings are extremely contradictory.
