Britain’s King Charles was targeted by a heckler shouting questions about Prince Andrew and accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein on Monday.
As Charles greeted fans outside Lichfield Cathedral in Staffordshire, west-central England, a man was heard yelling, “How long have you known about Andrew and Epstein?” and questioning whether Charles had asked the police to “cover up” for Andrew.
Fans of the king could be heard admonishing the man to, “Shut up!” with one particularly irate women screaming for the man to “Go away!”
Charles didn’t appear to react to the heckling, and carried on hugging and greeting fans.
Prince Andrew, 65, recently gave up his royal titles following public outrage over his relationship with Epstein, who committed suicide in 2019.
Although he will still be known as a prince, Andrew will no longer be known by the title Duke of York.
A now infamous photo of Andrew and Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre when she was a teenager appeared in The Daily Mail in 2011, drawing into question Andrew’s insistence he cut off contact with Epstein in 2010.
The BBC reported, that “emails sent in February 2011 later emerged suggesting that Andrew had privately stayed in touch with Epstein, including swapping a message: ‘Keep in close touch and we’ll play some more soon!’”
In her recently-released posthumous memoir, Giuffre recounted an “orgy” with Andrew and Epstein, and wrote that the prince “believed that having sex with me was his birthright.”
Giuffre took her own life at the age of 41 in April. Andrew has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
Buckingham Palace is reportedly deciding whether to move Andrew out of the 30-room Windsor mansion where he has lived virtually rent-free.
On Monday, The Sun newspaper reported that the prince “has agreed to leave Royal Lodge, but wants Frogmore Cottage for himself, and Adelaide Cottage” for ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.
