CNBC’s Jim Cramer Freaks Out About the Prospect of Mamdani Becoming NY Mayor: Do the Rich ‘Get Shot?’
Zohran Mamdani’s big win in the Democratic primary of the New York City mayor’s race was not taken particularly well by CNBC’s Jim Cramer.
During Wednesday morning’s edition of Squawk on the Street, the CNBC analyst imagined what life would be like in Mamdani’s New York. Cramer was joined in the criticism of Mamdani by his colleague David Faber — who set up Cramer to tee off on the 33-year-old Democratic Socialist.
“The new mayor, potentially, of New York is going to freeze the rents and everybody eats for free,” Faber said mockingly. “So they don’t have to worry.”
“But how ’bout the rich?” Cramer said. “Do they get shot?”
“Yes, they get taken away,” Faber replied.
“Is this Lenin?” Cramer asked. “Not John Lennon.”
Faber believes there will be an exodus of wealthy residents from the Big Apple.
“He wants to get the rents down,” Faber said. “One good way to do it is to stop all business and drive everybody out. That’ll bring the rent down.”
Cramer agreed.
“That’s a very good point,” Cramer said. “They’ll go to Jersey, where I am.”
