Congressman Says ‘I Support Elon Musk’ During Town Hall — and Crowd Lets Him Have It
The lively crowd of constituents at a Nebraska town hall in Columbus made their feelings on Elon Musk very clear to Rep. Mike Flood (R-NE) after the congressman voiced his support for the billionaire.
The event on Tuesday, held against the advice of House GOP leadership, saw Flood booed ferociously after voicing his support for Musk, who oversees the cuts being implemented by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
“I support Elon Musk and DOGE,” Flood said, responding to a question about the billionaire’s influence and potential conflicts of interest. The statement was met with a roar of jeers and thumbs-down gestures from attendees.
Tensions were already running high when a voter called out Flood for attacking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s “disrespectful” posture toward Trump during their recent showdown in the Oval Office.
“Shame on that,” the voter fired back, sparking applause.
Another attendee unloaded on Flood over Musk’s unchecked power within the federal government.
“You talk about national security, yet you have done nothing to stop Elon Musk and his little band of tech geeks,” the voter said. “This talk of ‘I support Trump, I support Elon Musk’—that’s not enough.”
The crowd continued to respond as Flood committed to protecting Social Security and said he supported Ukraine, to which the attendees applauded and cheered.
Despite the chaos, Flood defended his decision to hold an in-person event, calling town halls a vital part of democracy.
“I know that some of you in this room are angry, I know that some of you in this room are emotional,” he said. “But I need an opportunity to tell you or give you an answer, and then you can ultimately decide if you’re pleased with that or not.”
Earlier this month, President Donald Trump blamed “paid troublemakers” as he lashed out over the trend of Republican members of Congress getting berated at town halls in their home states.
