Fox News Decision Desk Guru Predicts How Long it May Take Before the Election is Called: ‘Race Seems Very, Very Close’

The head of the Fox News Decision Desk believes the 2024 election may not be called for several days.
In a rare interview with Politico, Fox News Decision Desk chief Arnon Mishkin predicted that — because of the way the vote is counted in several swing states, including Pennsylvania — it may take as many as five days for a winner to be decided.
“The race seems very, very close,” Mishkin said. “It is dependent on a number of states, like Pennsylvania, that we believe are going to be reporting in a pattern similar to the way they have reported in the past. So I’d say the over/under is Saturday. Which was when the call was made last time. Which is when Pennsylvania is likely to come in.”
Mishkin is highly regarded within the industry and has been a central figure in elections at the network for decades. He has headed the Fox News Decision Desk since 2008, meaning he has made the final call on when the network officially projects all races. In 2020, Mishkin famously and correctly called Arizona for President Joe Biden far earlier than other outlets, to the consternation of former President Donald Trump’s camp.
Team Trump likely won’t be thrilled with Mishkin’s assessment of the 2024 race either, as he believes Trump “may be declining.”
“I see some polls that say, ‘Actually, it ain’t going to be close. It’s going to be one way or the other,'” Mishkin said. “There’s some reporting that Trump is sort of gaining. Some of the polls have showed he’s gaining. There’s another sense I have that actually he may be declining. I think the real issue is what happens to Trump. I’ve always thought this about this election: It’s less about who’s running against him than it’s about Trump.”
Mediaite has learned that Fox New renewed Mishkin’s contract for 2022 and 2024.
