Fox’s Peter Doocy Confronts Trump, Zelensky Over Contrasting Statements on Ending War

Fox News senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy got right to the heart of an apparent dispute between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after they pushed conflicting statements about who’s responsible for ending the bloody conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

With the first question as Trump and Zelensky met in the Oval Office Monday, Doocy addressed conflicting statements by the two leaders posted to social media ahead of the White House summit.

“So President Zelensky, you say in a post on X today, ‘Russia must end this war, which they started.’ President Trump, you say, ‘President Zelensky of Ukraine can end the war with Russia almost immediately if he wants to,’ — which is it?

“Well, I think that’s true,” Trump replied. “I think we’re gonna have a meeting. I think if everything works out well today, we will have a trilat, and I think there will be a reasonable chance of ending the war when we do that.”

Doocy jumped to another question before getting a response from Zelensky.

In an X post Sunday night ahead of the highly anticipated meeting, Zelensky said, “Russia must end this war, which it itself started,” which contradicted a statement by Trump.

An hour before Zelensky’s post, Trump wrote on Truth Social: “President Zelenskyy of Ukraine can end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wants to, or he can continue to fight.”

Trump and Zelensky will be joined European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO military alliance Secretary-General Mark Rutte, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in a bilateral meeting with the goal of achieving peace in Ukraine.
