Gavin Newsom Brutally Mocks ‘Weak’ and ‘Small’ Trump Over Birthday Military Parade
Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) brutally mocked President Donald Trump over his scheduled military parade, comparing him to dictators and calling Trump’s desire for such a parade “small.”
Trump has long desired a tank-rolling military spectacle, and looks to be getting his wish on Saturday with a parade to ostensibly celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army — which also coincides with Trump’s 79th birthday.
There are events planned all day beginning in the morning, but the parade is scheduled to kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Constitution Ave. and is set to conclude at 8 p.m.
That parade is supposed to go on even if it rains, according to a U.S. Army spokesman, but lightning is a different story:
“Rain won’t stop us, the tanks don’t melt, but if there’s lightning then that puts the crowd at risk,” Steven Warren, chief spokesman for the army, told The Times. “If there’s lightning they will disperse the crowd and even cancel or postpone the parade.”
The event has drawn widespread criticism and even mockery from detractors who liken the display to those seen in dictatorships.
Gov. Newsom held a press conference Thursday on the since-overturned court decision on Trump’s federalizing of the National Guard, and was asked about protests being planned for the parade.
Newsom called Trump “weak” and “as small as it gets” for holding the event:
REPORTER: (INAUDIBLE) who plan to demonstrate on Saturday in response to a military event–.
GOVERNOR GAVIN NEWSOM: Do it peacefully.
It’s a vulgar display. It is the kind of thing you see Kim Jong-un, you see it Putin, you see with dictators around the world that are weak and just want to demonstrate strength.
Weakness masquerading as strength. To fete the dear leader on his birthday?
What an embarrassment.
Honestly, that’s about as small as it gets. How weak, how weak do you have to be to commandeer the military to fete you on your birthday in a vulgar display of weakness? That’s Donald Trump.
