The Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) website was emblazoned with a bright red banner officially blaming the “Radical Left in Congress” for the government shutdown on Wednesday.

Visitors to the site were met first with a pop up, and then a website banner with the same message:

The Radical Left in Congress shut down the government. HUD will use available resources to help Americans in need.

The message was added after the Senate failed to pass a continuing funding resolution on Tuesday which resulted in a federal government shut down at the outset of Wednesday morning. Senate negotiations remained deadlocked to the end as Democrats pressed for a deal in exchange for the seven votes needed to clear the chamber’s 60-vote procedural hurdle.

According to independent journalist Marisa Kabas, the HUD website displayed a similar banner messaging before the shutdown was final on Tuesday, warning the “Radical Left” would “inflict massive pain on the American people” if their demands were not met.

The language, Kabas noted in her Substack newsletter, mirrors language in an email she reported was issued by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to at least 16 government agencies that same day blaming Democrats.
