House GOP Leader Gets Revenge on Trump for Ruthlessly Killing His Speaker Bid By … Endorsing Him?

Back on Oct. 24, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) was nominated by his colleagues to become Speaker of the House. Just 90 minutes later, former President Donald Trump torpedoed Emmer’s bid with a single social media post.

On Wednesday, Emmer returned the favor by … giving Trump his full, unqualified endorsement.

In a statement posted to X/Twitter, Emmer threw his support behind the former president just two weeks before the Iowa caucus — an endorsement that figures to carry some weight locally given that Emmer’s district is less than two hours from the Iowa border.

“Democrats have made clear they will use every tool in their arsenal to try and keep Joe Biden and his failed policies in power,” Emmer wrote. “We cannot let them. It’s time for Republicans to unite behind our party’s clear frontrunner, which is why I am proud to endorse Donald J. Trump for President.”

It’s a stunning move by Emmer considering the degree to which Trump absolutely destroyed him less than three months ago. When Emmer’s name was floated as a possible speaker, the former president made cryptic comments suggesting he’d be open to the possibility. But then, immediately after Emmer won a majority vote among his colleagues to clinch the nomination for Speaker, Trump crushed any chance Emmer had of winning enough votes of the floor to take the job.

“I have many wonderful friends wanting to be Speaker of the House, and some are truly great Warriors,” Trump wrote. “RINO Tom Emmer, who I do not know well, is not one of them. He never respected the Power of a Trump Endorsement, or the breadth and scope of MAGA—MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! He fought me all the way, and actually spent more time defending Ilhan Omar, than he did me—He is totally out-of-touch with Republican Voters. I believe he has now learned his lesson, because he is saying that he is Pro-Trump all the way, but who can ever be sure? Has he only changed because that’s what it takes to win? The Republican Party cannot take that chance, because that’s not where the America First Voters are. Voting for a Globalist RINO like Tom Emmer would be a tragic mistake!”

But none of that stopped Emmer from completely caving to Trump just 10 weeks later.
