House Oversight Committee Reacts in Horror as it Learns of Charlie Kirk Shooting

The House Oversight Committee was meeting Wednesday when the news broke that Charlie Kirk had been shot, drawing horrified reactions from around the room and a call for prayer.

The 31-year-old Turning Point USA founder was speaking at an event at Utah Valley University Wednesday when the shooting occurred. Video taken by students attending his speech show Kirk appearing to have been shot in the neck after the sound of a single gunshot was heard. Authorities have a suspect in custody, according to the Deseret News.

During the House Oversight meeting, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) announced the news, saying, “I’d like to ask for a prayer for Charlie Kirk. It’s being reported that he’s been shot at an event.”

“Oh my,” Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the committee chairman, said as other members in the room could be heard gasping and reacting in horror.

“We’ll have a moment of silence,” said Comer and the committee paused its business to pray for Kirk.

The House GOP Oversight account shared the video, along with a caption that read “Pray for Charlie Kirk” and a praying hands emoji.  Comer shared the video as well, adding that “[a]ll our prayers are with [Kirk] and his family.”

A spokesperson for Turning Point USA told CNN that Kirk had been transported to a local hospital. Shortly before publication, it was reported that Kirk had died from his injuries.
