‘I’m Very Disappointed in Elon’: Trump Suggests He and Musk Are Toast in Stunning Oval Office Presser
President Donald Trump made his dissatisfaction with Elon Musk clear during a stunning Oval Office press engagement on Thursday.
Speaking with reporters alongside the chancellor of Germany, Trump fired back at Musk who has been relentless in his criticism of the “Big, Beautiful” budget bill which is the centerpiece of Trump’s 2025 agenda.
“Look, I’ve always liked Elon,” Trump said. “And so I was very surprised. You saw the words he had for me. And he hasn’t said anything about me that’s bad. I’d rather have him criticize me than the bill because the bill is incredible.”
He added, “Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore.”
Trump made clear to point out the infamous hat Musk donned in the White House which read “Trump Was Right About Everything” and argued that the budget bill is no exception.
“I am right about the great big beautiful bill,” Trump said.
The president also suggested self-interest may be a factor for Musk in his criticism of the budget bill — as the legislation does away with subsidies for electric vehicles. Musk, in a post on X responding to the president’s comments, denied this was the case.
“Whatever,” Musk wrote. “Keep the EV/solar incentive cuts in the bill, even though no oil & gas subsidies are touched (very unfair!!), but ditch the MOUNTAIN of DISGUSTING PORK in the bill.”
Trump spoke for more than 8 minutes straight but largely focused on the budget bill itself. But as he wrapped up his monologue, the president left very little room for interpretation on where things stand with Musk.
“I’m very disappointed in Elon,” Trump said. “I’ve helped him a lot.”
