The New York Times reported on Wednesday that President Donald Trump called Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) on Tuesday morning as part of the campaign urging her to drop her support for the release of the Epstein files.
“Mr. Trump connected with Ms. Boebert by phone early Tuesday morning, according to two people familiar with the call, a day before Speaker Mike Johnson was set to finally swear in a Democrat, Representative Adelita Grijalva of Arizona, who was expected to provide the 218th signature needed to force the Epstein vote,’ reported the Times’s Annie Karni and Devlin Barrett. The report added that Trump was also trying to get ahold of Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC):
Mr. Trump has also been reaching out by phone to Representative Nancy Mace of South Carolina, another of the Republicans who have signed the petition, according to a person familiar with the calls. The two have not yet connected.
Boebert and Mace are two of four Republicans who have joined Democrats to move to release the full Epstein files. Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) are the others bucking party leadership to join the petition.
ABC reported that “administration officials met with Rep. Lauren Boebert Wednesday morning” about her joining the discharge petition to force a vote on the release of the files. “Attorney General Pam Bondi, Deputy AG Todd Blanche, and FBI Director Kash Patel were among those present for the meeting, which occurred at the White House,” added ABC, citing unnamed sources.
The Times reporting would suggest that Trump called Boebert in for an in-person sit-down with his top officials working on the Epstein files.
NOTUS reporter Reese Gorman backed up the Times report on Wednesday afternoon, adding, “Trump and his team only have until two more hours to get one Republican to take their name off the Epstein discharge petition. Once Grijalva is sworn in at 4, she can sign the petition and the names are frozen. No one can remove their names after she becomes the 218 signer. Trump called Boebert and is playing phone tag with Mace right now, per a source.”
