Protestor Tells Fox News It’s ‘F*cking Crazy’ That Cops Are About to Rush Columbia University
A protestor at Columbia University ripped that school’s decision to invite the New York Police Department on campus to break up protests and remove students occupying a university building.
Demonstrations against Israel’s war in Gaza have reached a fever pitch on campuses across the country as students demand their schools divest from Israel while also seeking the end of U.S. aid to the country.
Columbia president Minouche Shafik ordered the protestors to clear out by 2 p.m. on Tuesday. When that did not happen, she requested police come to campus to forcibly remove them. Hours after the deadline passed, police began massing at the university gates. The university issued a “shelter in place” order.
During Tuesday’s episode of Hannity, Fox News reporter Alexis McAdams spoke to a couple of protestors just outside the campus, as reporters were not allowed in.
“What do you think about the NYPD moving in, making arrests?” she asked one man.
“It’s crazy,” he replied. “Just crazy.”
McAdams then asked about reports of violent rhetoric toward Jews.
“What about when people call for the death of Jews?” she asked. ”
“I haven’t heard that anywhere here,” he replied.
“If you did hear it, what would you say to those fellow protestors?”
“Obviously, that’s something we criticize and nothing we support here,” he said.
McAdams then spoke with another protestor who also criticized the police response:
MCADAMS: What do you think about the NYPD moving in?
PROTESTOR: It’s insane. We have a right to protest. We have a right. Look at that. [points to police]. That’s fucking crazy.
MCADAMS: Why are you out here tonight?
PROTESTOR: Because we have a right to stand up for Palestine and they’re taking that away from us. Free speech. Where’s that going?
MCADAMS: What do you think about the students, though, that have gone in and taken over that Hamilton Hall and broke the glass and caused some issues there? What do you think about that?
PROTESTOR: About causing issues there?
MCADAMS: They broke the glass. There was a custodian who couldn’t get out. I mean, do you think that’s ok? Kids can’t even get to class?
PROTESTOR: I think there’s a lot worse things on than kids not going to a class. Forty thousand people dead. Kids. I think it’s justified. What we’re doing is justified.
MCADAMS: What are you gonna do when they make the arrests? What are you gonna do if you get arrested?
PROTESTOR: What am I gonna do? I can’t really do much.
