SHOCK VIDEO: Distressed Whale Smashes Into New Jersey Boat, Sending Woman Overboard
A minke whale can be seen in visible distress after violently colliding with a small motorboat in Barnegat Bay off the Jersey Shore this weekend in harrowing viral footage that left one woman falling overboard.
The encounter, captured on video, shows the whale flailing in the shallow bay waters as boaters closed in. Moments later, the creature thrashed under the hull of a nearby vessel, flipping it and ejecting a woman into the water. She was pulled to safety without injury.
“It was really in distress. That’s when it would go under boats, it was a crazy experience,” said Kim Mancini, who filmed the incident and spoke to 6abc. The footage shows the whale’s dorsal fin slicing through the surface in panicked movements before and after the collision.
The animal later died, according to reports.
New Jersey, a popular boating destination in the summer months, has seen a rise in whale sightings, but marine activists and experts have warned boat activity in sensitive habitats poses growing threats to whales
There was no immediate public statement from NOAA about the incident.
