Shocking Video Shows Man Groping Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on the Street — and She’s Pressing Charges

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is pressing charges after a man groped her and attempted to kiss her on the street, a shocking incident that was all captured on camera.

The moment came as Sheinbaum was speaking to voters on Tuesday in Mexico City near the National Palace. Sheinbaum was walking from the National Palace to the Education Ministry when the incident occurred. She said she and her staff chose to make the five-minute walk rather than a 20-minute car ride.

Video posted to social media shows a man coming up behind her, attempting to kiss her on the neck, and wrapping his arms around her and groping her body.

Sheinbaum appeared uncomfortable as a staff member stepped in, but it didn’t appear to phase the man, who was seen trying to grab her again.

Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada confirmed that the man in the video was arrested after the incident. During a press conference on Wednesday, Sheinbaum confirmed that she will be pressing charges.

“My view is, if I don’t file a complaint, what will happen to other Mexican women? If they do this to the president, what will happen to all women in our country?” she said.

Sheinbaum added that she had experienced such behavior in the past and felt she needed to make a stand, declaring a “line must be drawn.” She called on states to evaluate their laws and reform them to make it easier for women to report assaults.

“I decided to press charges because this is something that I experienced as a woman, but that we as women experience in our country. I have experienced it before, when I wasn’t president, when I was a student,” she said.
