The View’s Sunny Hostin Claims DEI Critics ‘Don’t Care About Other People’

The View’s Sunny Hostin claimed people who don’t support DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives “don’t care about other people” or are just ignorant of the facts.

On the Behind the Table podcast, Hostin ripped into President Donald Trump and DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) head Elon Musk, as well as recent moves by the White House to encourage companies to move away from DEI programs. Hostin has been a staunch defender of DEI, even calling fellow liberal Pete Buttigieg “tone deaf” over his criticism of the Democratic Party’s embrace of it.

According to Hostin, “blind hiring” based on merit does not work across the board.

“Should we just depend on corporations to on their own make the workforce more diverse? They didn’t do it from 1776 to 1965, why do we think it’s going to be any different?” Hostin said about Buttigieg.

On Behind the Table, Hostin argued that DEI programs are necessary because you can’t rely on the “benevolence” of billionaires like Trump and Musk.

“I don’t want to rely on the benevolence of an Elon Musk who grew up in apartheid South Africa. I don’t want to rely on that. I want the opportunity, simply the opportunity to compete. Just the opportunity to compete. And that’s what diversity, equity and inclusion programs are,” she said.

Hostin said those that don’t back DEI initiatives “don’t like the facts” or simply “don’t care” about other people, as The View co-host argued DEI programs make employees happier and companies more successful because they are “reflective of the country.”

“By the way, studies show that those companies that embrace diversity, equity, inclusion do better. They make more money. People are happier. They’re reflective of the country,” she said. “And so anyone that isn’t, in my opinion, supportive of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, I think they either don’t like the facts or they don’t care.”
