Tom Cotton Blasts Biden Admin for Targeting ‘Black Smokers’ While Legalizing Weed for ‘White College Kids’

Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) blasted the Biden administration for targeting “black smokers” while also attempting “to legalize weed for white college kids” on X Wednesday.

“Joe Biden wants to ban menthol cigarettes, which are favored by black smokers. Meanwhile, he wants to legalize weed for white college kids and mail out free crack pipes,” stated Cotton.

“The administration’s ban is paternalistic, it’s hypocritical, and it creates a huge black market for Mexican cartels and Hezbollah,” he argued. “And all because Mike Bloomberg told him to.”

Axios reported in October that the Food and Drug Administration was “poised to move forward with a long-awaited ban on menthol cigarettes, a move hailed by public health groups who say it will especially improve the health of Black communities and prevent young people from taking up smoking.” The ban was originally proposed in April 2022.

That same month, Biden announced his intention to pardon all those convicted of federal marijuana possession charges, urged governors around the country to do the same for state-level offenses, and instructed the Secretary of Health and Human Services “to initiate the administrative process to review expeditiously how marijuana is scheduled under federal law” so that it is not in the same category as fentanyl and methamphetamine.

The Biden administration has denied a report from the Washington Free Beacon alleging that federal funds were to be allocated toward a program to provide drug users with safe supplies including crack pipes.
