President Donald Trump visiting a place called “Alligator Alcatraz” was arguably the least wild detail about his Tuesday trip to Florida.
Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem joined Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) on Tuesday to tour the quickly-built migrant detention facility in the Florida Everglades. Trump spoke plenty to the press during his trip and talked about everything from potential arrests to targeting CNN to importing fiercer alligators.
Here are the five most bonkers moments from Trump’s roller coaster Florida trip.
TRUMP TALKS ARRESTING MAMDANI AND MAYORKAS
Trump’s press conference included him revealing he’s open to scenarios where he arrests New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani and former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
On Mamdani, a Democratic socialist, Trump was asked what he would do if Mamdani wins his election and makes good on a promise to defy ICE in the city amid Trump’s mass deportations.
“Well, then we’ll have to arrest him,” Trump said.
The president also said during the press conference that he is open to arresting Mayorkas over his handling of the southern border under former President Joe Biden.
TRUMP TRASHES ‘SON OF A BITCH’ BIDEN
While physically touring the Florida detention facility, Trump took a shot at his predecessor Biden, claiming the Democrat wanted to see him in the very same cages this administration will be putting illegal migrants in.
“Hey, Biden wanted me in here,” Trump said as Noem and DeSantis laughed.
The president added under his breath, “That son of a bitch.”
TRUMP APPROVES OF NATIONAL GUARD IMMIGRATION JUDGES
The president said at one point that he approved of a plan to use National Guard soldiers as immigration judges.
“He didn’t even have to ask me. He has my approval,” Trump said.
Trump’s statement follows DeSantis trying to deputize Florida National Guard Judge Advocate General Corps officers to act as immigration judges in an effort to speed up the deportation processes.
TRUMP CONSIDERING IMPORTING CROCS
While in Florida, Trump revealed he’s open to importing crocodiles from other countries and placing them into the Rio Grande to prevent further border crossings, something the president had mentioned as a potential policy proposal in 2018.
“It was meant more as a joke, but the more I thought of it, the more I liked it, if you want to know the truth,” Trump said. “And they were serious. They were actually crocodiles. They were crocodiles from Africa. They are a step beyond.”
TRUMP HAS CNN IN HIS SIGHTS
The president made is clear is more than unhappy with CNN’s coverage of his administration’s immigration efforts.
“We’re working with the Department of Justice to see if we can prosecute them for that,” Noem said after being asked about coverage CNN did of an app that allows the tracking of ICE agents.
Trump went after the network by also taking issue with reports downplaying the success of strikes against Iran.
“They may very well be prosecuted also for having given false reports on the attack in Iran. They were given totally false reports. It was totally obliterated,” he said.
CNN fired back in a statement, saying, “There is nothing illegal about reporting.”
HONORABLE MENTION: THE CANNIBAL STORY
While seated next to Trump and DeSantis, Noem offered up a story she previously shared on Fox News earlier in the week about a detained illegal migrant who was allegedly a cannibal who also tried eating himself after his arrest.
“The other day I was talking to some marshals that have been partnering with ICE. They said that they had detained a cannibal and put him on a plane to take him home. And while they had him in his seat, he started to eat himself and they had to get him off and get him medical attention,” she said while railing against the media’s coverage of deportations.
