President Donald Trump branded former Georgia Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan a “total loser” after the ex-Republican announced he is now a Democrat and hinted at a possible political run for the party.

Duncan, once a rising star in Georgia’s Republican ranks, has long distanced himself from the party’s MAGA wing. He publicly rejected Trump’s claims about the 2020 election fraud and refused to support Trump-aligned candidates. His party ultimately expelled him this year for backing former President Joe Biden and, after Biden’s withdrawal, endorsing former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

Now, after years of ideological drift, Duncan has made his break official and Trump went straight to the jugular as he blasted the former lawmaker in a Truth Social post on Friday:

Failed former Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan, of Georgia, is a total loser. Was never able to get anything done, all he ever did was complain. We didn’t want him in the Republican Party any longer, so I’m told he became a Democrat. Good riddance Geoff. You don’t even have a chance!!!

The jab followed Duncan’s op-ed that was published Wednesday in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“There’s no date on a calendar or line in the sand that points to the exact moment in time my political heart changed, but it has,” Duncan wrote, citing moral opposition to GOP policies on healthcare, immigration, and gun safety.

A vocal critic of Trump-era legislation, Duncan blasted recent the administration’s efforts to cut Medicaid and food aid, describing them as “undermining efforts to care for vulnerable families.”

He also pointed to the failure to act on gun safety laws and condemned Trump’s immigration policies as “a lesson on how not to love your neighbor.”

“The list of reasons why I’m now a Democrat continues to grow,” he wrote. “Most importantly, my decision puts me in the best possible position each day to love my neighbor.”
