President Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is firing back on a report over rough conditions at ICE detention facilities, including concerns over a lack of food and detainees going hungry.

It all started after the NBC News dropped a report entitled, “Immigrants in overcapacity ICE detention say they’re hungry, raise food quality concerns.”

The report spotlights the plight of various migrants who claim they’re grappling with meal shortages and food-related illnesses while detained at migrant detention centers across the country.

“FAKE NEWS! Any claim that there is a lack of food or subprime conditions at ICE detention centers are FALSE,” the DHS said in response to the story.

The agency added: “All detainees are provided with proper meals, medical treatment, and have opportunities to communicate with their family members and lawyers. Meals are certified by dieticians. Ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of individuals in our custody is a top priority at ICE.”

NBC is not the only outlet reporting substandard conditions at migrant detention facilities.

Last week, Leamsy Izquierdo, a Cuban reggaeton artist known as Leamsy La Figura, told WFOR that he was only given one meal a day at Florida’s Alligator Alcatraz and “it had maggots.”

In June, four migrants escaped from the Delaney Hall Detention Center after days of tensions over food service in the New Jersey detention facility.
