Trump Tears ‘Animal’ Jay Jones Apart Over Violent Fantasies: ‘Anybody Would Be Put in Prison for What He Said’

President Donald Trump called Jay Jones, the Democratic nominee for attorney general in Virginia, an “animal” during a Q&A session with the press aboard Air Force One on Sunday.

Jones’s candidacy has been under a microscope ever since National Review reported on text messages in which he fantasized about the deaths of a Republican lawmaker and his children.

Here’s how Trump responded to questions about Jones and his continued quest to become Old Dominion’s next top cop:

REPORTER: Jay Jones has repeatedly said that he would, in Virginia-

TRUMP: Who said what?

REPORTER: Jay Jones, in Virginia

TRUMP: Jay Jones, you mean the one that wanted to kill somebody’s children and kill somebody? You mean the animal that wanted to kill somebody? Who should not be allowed to be running for that office?

REPORTER: Yeah, he said he can’t wait to see you in court. I’m wondering if you have a response and if you’re considering getting involved in that race.

TRUMP: Well, what is he saying?

REPORTER: He said in the debate on Thursday night that he can’t wait to sue your administration and see you in court.

TRUMP: He’s a third-rate intellect. He’s a guy who -, I’ve never seen anybody say what he said. That he wanted to kill his opponent’s children, he wanted to kill his opponent. No, I can’t imagine anybody voting for Jay Jones. Look, you would think he’s totally discredited. I would think think he wouldn’t even be allowed to do that. Anybody would be put in prison for what he said. So he can join the long list of attorney generals that have been suing and losing, but the people of this country want law, they want order, they want safety, they don’t want to be mugged, or raped, or shot. And that’s what we provide. We have tremendous numbers, also. You see the crime numbers are coming way down, way down. Then you take a look at a place like Washington, D.C., which is now one of the safest cities in the country. It was one of the worst cities, most dangerous cities.
