President Donald Trump may appreciate the fact that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is one of his most loyal supporters in Congress, but he reportedly “doesn’t love her chances” in a potential showdown with incumbent Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA).
According to Axios, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R) will soon sit down with Trump to discuss whether they can coalesce behind the same GOP candidate to challenge Ossoff in 2026.
And in “both the White House and the governor’s mansion, there’s concern with polling that shows firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene would win a Republican primary but lose to Ossoff. One poll conducted by a Republican group shows her getting ‘smoked,’ said one person who had reviewed the numbers.”
“The president loves MTG. He doesn’t love her chances in a general,” one adviser to the president told the outlet.
While Greene is still weighing her options, per Marc Caputo and Alex Isenstadt, she is “aware of the perception that she could not win a general election.”
Greene made waves earlier this week when she railed against the recent direction of the Trump administration on Steve Bannon’s show.
“Never forget, I got here on my own with the people. I didn’t get elected with the president’s endorsement. I fought through a primary, and a runoff, and I won. And I won a general election — President Trump endorsed me then — but I already won the general election anyways. I would have won even without it. I’m here because I genuinely believe and I’m fighting for what I believe in. And what I belief in is what most Americans believe in,” Greene told Bannon. “So when I am — when I am making a call to action, and it’s always early, I’m an early indicator, but when I’m making a call to action, people better pay attention. And here’s the issue, Steve, is they think they can manipulate the president, but you can’t manipulate the base.”
