‘Wasted No Time Doing the Worst’: Charlamagne Slams Trump’s National Guard Deployment
Charlamagne tha God on Monday called out President Donald Trump for his decision to federalize and deploy the National Guard to respond to the protests in Los Angeles.
Over the weekend, thousands took to the streets of LA to protest a wave of immigration raids going on throughout the city. Things quickly descended into chaos as crowds fought back against police in riot gear. Immigration officers also had rocks thrown at their vehicles as they attempted to flee.
On Sunday morning, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) spoke with Trump on the phone to discuss the unfolding chaos. Although Newsom later said that Trump never explicitly mentioned sending troops into the city, the president announced his intentions to do so hours later.
In an interview with NBC News, Newsom called Trump a “stone-cold liar.”
“I’ll tell you one thing,” Charlamagne said on Monday’s episode of The Breakfast Club. “Trump really wasted no time doing the worst of everything folks thought he would. Like, you can’t put the military on protesters. Did I miss something? Were they not being peaceful? Because I didn’t hear about any ruckus or violence until the National Guard showed up!”
Charlamagne’s co-host, DJ Envy, then brought up the viral video of the man hurling rocks at fleeing immigration officers.
“But does that call for the National Guard?” Charlamagne asked.
