WATCH: D.C. Shooting Suspect Shouts ‘Free Palestine’ as He’s Led Away in Cuffs
The man accused of killing two Israeli Embassy staff in Washington, D.C., was recorded shouting “Free Palestine” as he was arrested by law enforcement outside a Jewish museum on Wednesday night.
The footage shows the moment 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez was detained inside the Capital Jewish Museum. Rodriguez, identified by DC Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith, is alleged to have opened fire outside the museum moments earlier.
Smith said the suspect, from Chicago, acted alone. Rodriguez was seen pacing outside the museum before approaching a group of four people and shooting Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, according to police.
He then entered the museum, where eyewitnesses told CNN he posed as a bystander.
Sara Marinuzzi, who was inside at the time, told the network that Rodriguez “pretended to be a witness” and lingered in the museum for more than 10 minutes before allegedly confessing to the attack.
Speaking to Fox News, an unnamed eyewitness described what happened: “When the cops actually came in, he said, ‘I did this.’ He said, ‘I’m unarmed’ and put his hands up and started the ‘Free Palestine’ chant. ‘There is only one solution, intifada revolution.’ He was being dragged out of the building yelling ‘Free Palestine.'”
Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan identified the victims as Lischinsky and Milgrim, a young couple who were to be engaged in Jerusalem next week.
