According to CBS News Austin, law enforcement demanded protesters keep the demonstration isolated it a specific area of the campus before the arrests occurred. Protesters can be heard yelling obscenities and demanding the release of detainees as they were led away by police.
The protest is reflective of a movement of demonstrations occurring across college campuses in the U.S., where pro-Palestinian activists are demanding a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas. Moreover, protesters are also demanding the U.S. stop providing financial and military aid to Israel.
Over the weekend, President Joe Biden and other leading Republican lawmakers have condemned the protests for anti-Semitism due to chants of support for Hamas at a Columbia University.
