White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt outright rejected The Washington Post’s claim that President Donald Trump is “ramping up” Guantánamo Bay deportations and plans to send citizens of allied nations there.

The report, published on Wednesday, cites officials who claim the administration is preparing a large-scale expansion of migrant transfers to Guantánamo Bay, with plans to send thousands of foreign nationals – including detainees from Britain, France, Germany, and Italy – to the infamous military base in Cuba.

The Post further cites an internal memo that bluntly notes: “GTMO is not at capacity.”

Leavitt hit back at the claims in a bluntly worded post to X on Wednesday morning, calling the reporting “fake news”:

In January, Trump pledged to send up to 30,000 migrants to the site as part of nationwide crackdown on illegal migrants.
