‘Yikes!’ CNN Data Guru Highlights Massive ‘Decline’ in Trump Support Among Moderate Republicans

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten broke down how President Donald Trump has gradually lost support among moderate Republicans heading into 2026’s contentious midterm elections.

During a Tuesday segment, Enten revealed Trump’s support among the non-MAGA portion of his base has plummeted since 2024. He used just one word to describe the steep decline.

“Yikes is the word,” Enten said.

“OK, take a look at this, the moderate GOP on Trump. This includes leaners. This is about 30-40% of the party, depending on how you exactly look at it.

“Versus Kamala Harris, Trump easily was winning amongst them by 69 points back in October of 2024,” Enten said. “Come over to this side of the screen. Look at this decline into Lake Erie. I mean, right now we’re talking about, we’re talking about just a +10 net approval rate. This is within his own party! This is within his own party! He’s just barely above water!”

That drop, Enten continued, was largely due to Trump’s waning support on issues involving the economy. According to the survey, Trump’s net approval on the economy among moderate Republicans was a staggering +80. That has since gone down to just +3.

“That is, as I said, a 77% drop on the key issue that got Donald Trump reelected to a second term where the Republican Party was lockstep and key with him,” Enten continued. “Moderate Republicans have abandoned Donald Trump, and now he is just treading water with a group that overwhelmingly supported him.”

The poll comes about a week after three surveys were released last week showing the president with dismal approval ratings hovering between 32% and 34%, numbers which prompted Trump to lash out Monday at pollsters in a Truth Social post.

Don’t believe the Radical Left’s Fake Poll numbers. They are Crooked and Corrupt, just like the Country Destroying Dumocrats are Crooked and Corrupt. VOTE REPUBLICAN FOR GREATNESS IN AMERICA! Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
