Tucker Carlson believes there’s only one person in the GOP capable of carrying on President Donald Trump’s legacy in 2028, and Carlson’s son happens to work for him.
On the VINCE podcast with Vince Coglianese, Carlson called Vice President JD Vance the only Republican “capable” of expanding the president’s “legacy.”
Carlson said:
I think people want to leave a legacy, all of us do, and great men especially do. And the only person in the entire Republican Party from my position who’s capable of carrying on the Trump legacy and expanding it, making it what it should fully be, is JD Vance. I think his loyalty is without question and his service to Trump has been profound. So I’m assuming that was just like a phrase that you feel you have to use.
Both Carlson and Coglianese agreed Trump side-stepping a question on Vance running in 2028 was a way to “protect” the vice president by keeping focus off the next election. Asked about Vance and 2028, Trump told Fox News last month that there are “a lot of capable people” when it comes to picking the next Republican nominee.
Not every Trump supporter is behind passing the torch. Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo on Tuesday that “we’re working on it” when discussing Trump somehow managing to run for a third term in 2028.
Carlson called Vance a “profound partner” for the president. The former Fox News host’s son Buckley currently serves as Vance’s press secretary.
“He has been a powerful partner for Trump. I don’t see any other — at this point, as of today — any other conceivable option,” Carlson said. “I think JD Vance will be the nominee.”
