Tim Geithner Called Dinesh D’Souza a ‘Dick’ to His Face for Outing Gay Students

Former Treasury Sec. Timothy Geithner once allegedly had a tense verbal exchange with conservative author Dinesh D’Souza, in which Geithner confronted D’Souza for being a “dick” and outing several gay students at Dartmouth College.

BuzzFeed obtained excerpts of Geithner’s new memoir, Stress Test, that describe the early-’80s interaction when Geithner and D’Souza were both undergraduate students. At the time, the latter was an editor of the conservative Dartmouth Review, which had published a list naming the members of Dartmouth College’s Gay Straight Alliance. The move reportedly outed several students who had yet to publicize their sexuality.

At the time, the New York Times reported that one outed student “became severely depressed and talked repeatedly of suicide.”

Geithner recalled viewing the list as a “McCarthy-style” outing, and when he ran into D’Souza at a local coffee shop he asked the author “how it felt to be such a dick.”

According to BuzzFeed, Geithner also refers to D’Souza as a “conspiracy-minded best seller.”
